Hey guys. I just won a set of TT brakes on eBay, waiting to pay and get them shipped. Just after a bit of advice on installing the calipers. What is the correct procedure for installation? Just bolt them on, then bleed the brakes?

Did you get rotors and pads? They are different to the V8 ones. You will also need to bend or cut off the dust shields as they won't fit nicely over the TT brakes. It's also a good idea to have a new calliper kit fitted while you are at it.

Both front and rear calipers and rotors. Calipers are already reconditioned. Front pads included brand new, Don't know about rears yet. All rotors are freshly skimmed (1st skim). Changing the rotors seems easy enough, but I can't find any decent info on actually replacing the calipers. Because the calipers are new, and have no fluid in them, what is the correct procedure for getting them full, with no air bubbles in them? Bleeding the line itself seems easy enough, but nowhere have I seen the calipers themselves getting bled. Any ideas? Cheers

To bleed or flush brakes. http://soarer.ace.net.au/bleeding_flushing.html

Ok - finally done. Had a mechanic mate help me out re: getting the V8 caliper retaining clips to fit the TT calipers. And, he bled all the lines for me. BUT, the pedal is extremely soft. I expected it to be a bit softer due to the larger calipers, but it is MUCH softer. Really haveto sink the boot in to get the brakes to work. It's fine on second application, but first is way soft. Is the only way around this to fit the TT master cylinder?(if it's different...one would assume so?) EDIT: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/noctiluca/Soarer/EXtoyota4/localf~1/download/extoyo~1/wwwelc~1.ru/toyota/cod~1241.htm It seems they are both the same... Any ideas? Cheers

Sounds like you've still got air in there somewhere Jason

I have a similar problem. I had them suction bled, made a small difference. A rep from Bendix said I will have to get the ABS to activate before bleeding them. Is this true with ABS equipped cars?

He is a maroon! So, get him to stand at the end of the road... go on the road with unbled brakes race down the road towards him and jam them on in order to get the ABS to work, find out you have no brakes at all and .... I bet he would offer you an alternative solution.

Jason, ring K mart tyre auto at Maitland, 49338645, ask to speak to Dan, I had the same problem after fitting TT brakes and he knows how to bleed them properly. Cheers

Thanks John. Are yours working fine now? I will be at my local Kmart Tyre and auto within the next week getting new front tyres, as they are good blokes here. I will see if they can speak to the Maitland guys and sort it out. Cheers

If air got into the ABS system, then they are slack and it's not easy to get it out.

Thats what happened to mine I didnt block the lines when I pulled off calipers, and the fluid drained out. Thats what the Bendix rep was referring to. Re bleed after activating ABS.

Ahh, makes sense now. should use pipe clamps or even a wooden peg whittled down to suit to block the flow.

Or, be quick and leave the lid on master cylinder to reduce the flow of air in.

| I've always used vice-grips (on a gentle setting) and have never had any problems to date.
