I've been offered a set of Brembo front calipers for a TT. What I would like to know is
a) What's a reasonable price?
b) Will these calipers fit inside 17x8 +45 offset rims
c)What's a reasonable price for a new set of DBA 4000 Gold rotors. (I've been quoted abt $300ea which seems a bit heavy)
There is also a possibility of Supra MkIV calipers being available.

Tom, more information please.
a) What size? New or used? What condition?
b) What size are they? Have you asked a supplier?
c) Get another quote and see if it is lighter.

Not sure about whether they are legal.
If yot reckon $300 is steep for the TT rotors don't ask about Supra TT, I was quoted $520 EACH for them for DBA and that was not slotted. Genuine Toyota Supra TT rotors are around $200 ea so I went with them and am very happy with them.
As far as wheel fitment goes some 17 x 8 won't go anywhere near fitting the Supra brakes. Mine have heaps of clearance. It is more a question of spoke design than offset.

Expected prices seem to lie around $1000 to $1500 based on a perusal of eBay and comparison with new price for a brake kit. What are you being offered?

Mark, why maybe not legal?
David, have also checked ebay etc.
The S/H ones are complete with new pads, fitted and guaranteed - $1100 - but I will upgrade my rotors first(and fit Maltech braided hoses).
Race brakes - $3600 for the fronts

depends on what mods are needed to fit them. If they are direct bolt-on like the Supra ones then should all be OK.
Some aftermarket brakes require spacers for the wheels which as far as I know are not legal.

There was also some clown in Japan offering 'Brembo' claipers real cheap....it was actually just a paint job on Toyota calipers.

Tom sometimes brackets to make calipers bolt on are not legal.

On the V8 some Soarer TT brakes and rotors and some greenstuff pads are plenty. Lots of guys circuit sprint with this set up.

Heaps cheaper and no wheel fitment worries. If you need more than some DS3000 pads on the TT brakes will lift the bar higher again. Steve Patterson races his manual TT with TT brakes and these pads and thinks it's great.

Value for money the TT brakes are hard to beat. Race pads are cheap compared to Supra or Brembo upgrades.

You will need approx 7cm from the surface of your existing disk to the inside of the spokes of your wheel for Supra or 1998 LS400 4 pots. Brembos may need the same clearance.

I'd recommend stock TT rotors, TT calipers and greenstuff for road and circuit and if you still have fade then go Feredo DS2500 or hardcore DS3000.

Maltech lines are great as well.

The one big advantage of the 4 pot design is that the caliper no longer has slides to jam up. That was the main reason I went to 4 pot brakes....and I got them at a good price.

hello, i was thinking of upgrading my breaking system and i thought braided break lines would be a good start, i have performance pad which bite hard but the pedal feels long on very hard stops (i have had a soarer for 3 days so im not sure whats normal)

so i would like to know 2 things
i heard that someone from the soarer club makes a braided break kit? if so where can i find this person??

and 2. from what i have been reading in other posts TT breaks are the beez neez, does this mean they are better and bigger than a V8 soarer? and how do they rate against other cars of the era?? (1994)

thanks

Your brakes may also need bleeding.

TT brakes are indeed the knee of the bee compared with those normally fitted on a V8. If you already have a pad upgrade then your next steps are probably Supra or Celsior brakes, either of which will require non-standard wheels. If you can already trigger ABS at high speed then a tyre upgrade will do more to improve your braking at this point. Steel lines may improve the long pedal (but do as Dan said first) and will give a firmer feel.

Incidentally, beez neez is a brand of beer and the rest of us stop with brakes in preference to breaking anything

Thanks David, I work in a bottle shop and sell a lot of Beez Neez, (Not a bad brew either!)

I'm one of those people that puts stopping and handling performance above engine performance, so I like to have the best brakes I can afford.

So, is beez neez dot 4 or dot 5?

To right guys, I think a few to many people (not just here, but everywhere in the modded car scene) look at making the car go a lot faster without making sure it can stop as good. Not the best of ideas. I can get Harrop Engineering 6 and 8 pots on the 'cheap', from $4300 for two calipers, I'm sure they;d be selling lots of them!
