Hey guys,
I am needing to replace parts of my braking system on my 1991 JZZ30 Twin Turbo Soarer as its too old and worn.
I have already got for it the following –
DBA 4000 6 x 6 Wiper Slot Rotors with Thermal Paint Markings
For the Front - DBA4748SL DBA4748SR
For the Rear - DBA4746SL DBA4746SL
Maltech Stainless Braided Lines for Front & Rear
Now I am trying to choose which brake pads would go nicely with this setup.
I don’t do any track driving, but with the way I drive I will need a heavy duty pad which will not suffer from fade and lose its bite after long hard drives, yet be “gentle” on my rotors.
So please post your suggestions including approx PRICE, BRAND & MODEL (part numbers if possible will help greatly !)

The Lucas pads are softer than some others, but with a very high temperature rating. This means they bite well and don't give up even under extreme duress. Being softer, the pad will sacrifice rather than chew out the rotor.
Pads tend to be a combination of friction and stiction
More friction/less stiction means the pads are harder and the rotors wear more. Think cement brake pads.
More stiction/less friction means the pads are softer so the rotors wear less. Think chewing gum brake pads.
Usually softer pads go soggy and fade when very hot which is where the Lucas pads are very good.
They may get to feel a bit soggy, but they won't give up.
Some people argue about the use of the word "fade" in relation to braking. It is used by some people to define any deviation in performance away from normal as the brake heats up. I personally don't go with that, as most pads change their characteristics a bit, some pads eg Ferodo bite better when hot.
My experience with fade is pushing the pedal as hard as possible yet not getting any real braking work done, as if the pads have turned to eg glass.
I have had the OEM pads fade on the 4th lap whereas the Lucas pads have still been working well after about 20 laps. They do wear out faster however. But I would rather have pads that work but wear, than pads that give up when the going gets tough.
The downside to the pad being softer, especially with cheese grater (slotted) rotors, is they are dusty and make your wheels dirty, but it just washes off, so no harm done.

Just out of interest people, can you have the dba rotors to suit a soarer, for instance the ones Shannon has and then put on supra tt brake calipers? very intrigued..

I have ferodo DS2500 pads! and they are sweet matched with the DBA 4000 slotted rotors!! they make a fair bit of dust! but thatts why i got black wheels! so i can get away with it for longer!

HMM I cross referenced some Bendix pads (DB1395) to Ferodo's but the Ferodo's are slightly smaller then the factory toyota pads onda front, is this normal ?

Just got a quote- $260 + 60 cutting fee. from some autosport place in canberra. The guy told me they come as a blank pad, then they cut them down with an angle grinder... wouldn't be hard to do to save $60
