Hey Guys,

let me start off first by saying Hi and introducing myself. My name is Jeremy and I'm from San Pedro, CA USA, it's near Long Beach and I just bought a 1991 GZ20 with the 1G-GTEU. It's auto w/ 117km on it but in GREAT condition!!
I've only seen one here before and only heard of one other one in So Cal. So I know that finding parts for this engine is gonna be hard.
Well I've been searching this and toymods forums all night and I've found alot of useful information. But I still have a couple of questions and to verify some others:

I need a water pump for my car, Is the any other water pumps that are interchangeable with my car that i can get from anything sold here?

And since I'm doing a water pump I want to change the timing belt, cam & crank seals. Is there anything I should change?
Also is there any interchangeable parts for this as well?

And just to verify, is it true that MA70 & JZA70 suspension & brake parts are interchangeable between the GZ20 & MZ20?

I'm also thinking of doing a 5 speed swap, What do I need for this and can I find any of these parts from the MA70 & JZA70?

Lastly if you have a shop could you maybe give me a pricing for a water pump, timing belt kit and the seals, with shipping to 90731

I really am excited about this car so any help is GREATLY appriciated. Thanks alot and I'm eagerly awaiting your answers!

if you are going to convert to manual the best bet is to
change your whole engine to a 1jz-gte from a jza70 supra it just unbolts and fits straight in including crossmembers everything u dontneed anything extra

as for gong manual if that what you want

w58 gearbox from a non turbo ma70 supra will fit
you will need a different flywheel and clutch though so you have to find a 1g-gte flywheel unless you get a custom one made up

regarding the brakes

ga70 supra and gz20 soarer have the same brakes

ma70, jza70 supras have the larger diameter dics but use the same pads but the calipers are different

so if you want the bigger brakes use the discs and calipers off a ma70 or jza70 supra

suspension is the same with all gz20, mz20, ga70, ma70, jza70 supra/soarers

exhaust from the ga70 supra will not bolt up to a gz20 soarer without minor modification (need to be shortened or lengthened cant remember which one)

timing belt part no - 13568-79035 (im assuming this is a toyota number)

gates brand timing belt - T865

rear main oil seal (toyota) - 90311-75009

this is all I know at the top of my head
please check with someone else before taking my words for granted

cheers

ps --- have fun with the soarer

No worries mate
One thing you can do is get the water pump off the yahoo auctions in japan
theres a few people here who can help you out
i reccomend Jeff harper from these forums as i have used his service before and havent had any problems contact him and he will help you out

here's something to start you off with
its a link to the auctions with all soarer parts find what you want and then ask jeff or any other person on here who deals with yahoo auctions to help you out

Thanks man!! Your Awesome!!

One other question though, can the clutch pedal and slave cylinder from the Ma70 or the JZA70 fit into the GZ20?

Yes you need the clutch pedal, and brake pedal from one of the supras I got mine from a ma70 non turbo u will also need the clutch master and slave cylinder to go with it

The best way to do it is find a ma70 non turbo
Get the w58 gearbox out of it including the gearbox cross member
Get the clutch master and slave cylinders out of it including the lines
Get the clutch pedal and brake pedal out of it

you will need to find/purchase/fabricate
a 1g-gte manual flywheel ( good luck ) also make sure you have the right generation flywheel as there’s differences in them
a 1g-gte to w58 (manual) bell housing (good luck to that too)
a 1g-gte clutch kit (daikin make a good one which is what I had and it wasn’t too heavy on the foot)
a soarer centre gearbox shifter console (or u can modify the auto one like I did )
a custom tails shaft ( or use the existing one you have and modify it )
the tail shaft needs to be lengthened or shortened im not sure which one it is to make it fit the manual gearbox

and when its all done you have to do something to the parking switch I cant remember what it is ask on toymods they will help you out there
also the reverse lights need to be connected to the new box as well

cheers

What about the Thermostat? Is that a universal item?

ah yes the thermostat

i dont know if the same with the supra
but i do know that the thermostat from the 1988 toyota corolla 4a-ge engine is the same and works well so just go to your local car parts store and get the locally made themostat for the corolla

but make sure you use the rubber gasket from the old thermostat that you are replacing as they fit better

and also make sure to use toyota red coolant and do a full cooling system flush if the coolant was the green type before
