Hey guys, Ive had my gz20 for roughly 6 months or so now and Im looking to upgrade to the stock intercooler. Does anyone know if there are intercooler kits for the 1g? If not, how simular are they to the 1j kits (as they are a bit easier to source)? I just recently purchased a 3 inch turbo back system and Im looking to upgrade the intercooler before i increase the boost a few PSI.
they're pretty similar. but its not the engine fitment you should worry about with intercooler selection, its the body fitment. A 600x300x76 FMIC is more than adequate for the job, and anything bigger requires cutting.
im running a JZZ30 cooler+piping setup on mine which seems to work relatively well. Of course i had to make a few modifications to it. The GZ20 cooler, just like the JZA70 ones runs off the turbos on the drivers side, into the guard, down and across into the cooler, then back up the passenger side and into the throttle body.
im pretty sure John Richardson was running a JZA70 cooler kit on his old 1G, pre 1J conversion. I didn't fit mine until after i did the 1J conversion. The difference between our kits is that he had custom piping done to run through the drivers side quarter panel, wheras mine i ran it directly down near the alternator, into a 180 degree bend to go around the radiator and into the cooler.
