This document shows how to eliminate tail lamp module bongs and warnings . For those who simply want rid of the bongs for good, get your nose hair clippers out and go to -1- If you are handy with the soldering iron then try -6-, it is not necessarily the only approach to use but is how I did my modifications . RS only supply in multiples of 5. Thanks to Rob for the rear end pictures

hey luke thanks heaps for the info; just to clear some things up so if someone has just fitted 1997 tail lights on there 1991 soarer by doing this mod will eliminated that dredded bong on the dash warning light?? If so your a legend...

Thanks Robert The 97 cluster has only 2 stop lamps in total so the dash warning only sounds when you press the brake (not when you turn on the tail lights). So example 6a should work, however, I would say simply remove the resistor Rb as shown in 3 to stop any brake lamp failure message as this is easier. Or if in doubt, cut the module to dash sense wire shown in 1.

Is the warning message the same as the one at the top on my tutorial? Is the PLASTIC box the same shape as the one in my tutorial (colour may differ due shelf brake light model)? Is the wire that you have cut in the same LOCATION in the connector as the one in my tutorial (colour may differ)

okay. you know what? its not a plastic box. where's the plastic box? i couldn't find any plastic box. What i could find however is a metal box, with wires that go to the lights. I'll grab a picture tomorrow. cheers. yes. same location. if its the wrong wire, i'll splice it back. Sigh. i feel a little retarded.

the plastic box (mine was grey) is located near where the fuel flap is...well around that area anyways...more so near where the boot hinges are i think... have a good look!...you have to take the side boot trim off to find it. It shows what it looks like in Lukes (diagram C) on his tutorial above anyways hope that helps Alvin...

boot trim was off, is it supposed to be mounted on with clips or anything? i guess i'll be splicing those wires back, doesn't affect the lights or anything as of now, so i'm not fussed. And then having another look to find that plastic box. Got to grab a picture of that metal box to identify what it is though. this is so complicated compared to my old 32R.

Yeah, it's facing away from the inside of the boot and all you can see in the tab holding it to the frame of the car. I did this yesterday because I removed the rear window tail light and was sick of the dash warning light and CBF finding a 1ohm 25watt resistor. Mine was a green wire with a purple stripe, not a purple wire, but it was still pin 4 as shown.
