I can't understand why some of you're getting such poor economy. We get at least 400km from a tank here, where the car never gets really warm and all the runs are short and the roads hilly. From past experience with other cars I'd expect at least 30% better under our usual mainland running conditions (which includes little city driving, I have to say).

You guy's should all move to a V8...

10-12 kml giving a gentle kicking on the open road, and 6-10 with some loud pedal in traffic around town (as in trying to keep up with the Taxi's!)

Leads to the question, are all tanks the same size?

~450 out of a tank (driving somewhat sedately (for me at least)).

One look at the tailpipe tips tells the story, absolutely black. Plenty of raw fuel leaving these pipes.

eep.

over Xmas, I drove around 550Kms ona tank of fuel.

I did some long freeway stints on cruise control (Phillip island and back) and also some hard driving through the hills (Chadstone to monbulk, then onto healsvil and back) I thought my fuel consumption was pretty bad!

My close to stock TT (BFI is all that's done) Gives me 600 when driving normally and up to about 650 when more sedate. Never done a highway trip yet but I assume that it could get to 700 L/tank if I could manage to keep it off boost.

Later model JZZ31's are only 70 litre tanks - at least mine is. I have done 350km since I filled up on Sunday, mostly brisk open road driving, and gauge is still showing above the half way point. I'm pretty sure I could get 700-800km out of a tank on the open road without worry of running out, even with my led foot. The new iridium plugs seem to have improved economy a bit too.

I did 750KM's on a full tank when I first purchased my car from Melbourne and drove it up to Sydney. This was on the highway, with about 3-4 stops along the way. Cruise Control was also on for 99% of the time, but never went above 108KM/H (bloody limits!)

That was on my TT Don. I was the first owner and it was bone stock at the time, apart from aftermarket sideskirts and rear lip. I filled up the tank before I left Melbourne, and had the low fuel warning message appear once I was around the Goulbourn area I think? Can't really remember now :-(
I was well past the ACT though.

As for my V8, it was fairly good on fuel also. I averaged around 600KM per tank, since it was always driven very.. calmly. Can't say the same for the TT!

Ive never really had a problem with the gas it uses, seems pretty much the same as my Honda 2l 5 Cylinder Rafaga was on gas! Goes through a tad more when allowing the engine to rev to peak revs... Still No complaints with it at all.

I havent yet looked into insurance for my v8, I can get it with some brokers but will be looking at $900-1600 a year with my current license and age. For the mean time I just take care while driving and avoid heavy traffic where Ill most likely get rear-ended.... :-)

Pay it monthly Mike, then its not so bad... at the very least get yourself some 3rd party ASAP, I know you are a sensible guy, but it would really suck to hit something expensive and then have to spend the next 5 years paying off the damage.
