hey guys just got the front bar of my car replaced with the stock 93 one.looks fantastic, problem is that my intercooler is sticking out the bottom a bit. and i have no idea if it is possible to shift it up about 2 inchs towards the bonet so it is no longer sticking out.. this is only one of my many problems..i bought this car with duel 4" chrome exhaust tips.Vertex body kit.intercooler and pod filter. i think i may of made a mistake since all i really wantd was just a stock soarer with a half-decent sound system.. i am running out of time & money to do up this beast.the car is unroadworhty for the time being and its now been about a month since i have bought it and i have driven it mabe at most 15 times..and mainly to and from panel beaters and tyer centres.. any ideas on what i should and can do?? i am loosing my g0d damn mind. i've been driving my daewoo around and im about to crash it purposely becasue i have had enough of it.. and another distressing question which i think was already answerd from another thread. being the power to weight ratio. and can i get away with driving it on my P's? if i end up fixing everything on this car and then find out i can't drive it because im on my P's.. im going to go ape sh1t! some one please help me out here

Hey
Well Im not sure whether the intercooler can be moved up a bit ... im sure someone else will be able to help you out on that. But I guess it will be limited in the ability to be moved as all the piping etc. are fixed lengths thus in order for it to be moved i would think they would all need to be adjusted which wouldnt be really feasible
But I have an intercooler and I would have to say that it would be sticking out about an inch if i didnt have the lip attachment .. so maybe that may be an option if you dont have it already and want to maintain a factory look
In regards to the power weight ... yes the soarer is over, as the police have it listed as 206kw and 1600kg which puts it just over the 125kw/tonne limit, so depending on who pulls you over you will always be under risk of being pinned for it.
Hope that is some help

thanks mate. im sure i bl00dy looked into the power to weight ratio before i bought the damn thing.. so now im screwd either way..i think i have to road worthy it and sell the beast damn.. and only 2 years before i get off my P's.. theres no way to make the car heavier and the power less so it doesnt go over the 125kw per tonne ratio is there? any other P platers out there who have found a way to get away with it??

Ben,
Pitty your not in NSW, I would have spoken to you about organising a meet and bit-swap....
I was looking at updating my exhaust and getting a few bodykit bits, trying to spruce up my Soarer a little, as currently I have a single 3.5" tipped cat-back exhaust, it's pretty quiet until you get fully under the throttle, then it echo's in tunnels, but sounds very sweet. Unfortunately, I want the twin exhaust setup, not the single tip (willing to swap with anyone).
As for the intercooler, there would have to be a way of stopping it from sticking out at the bottom (which will unfortunately att4ract the wrong people's eye (police)), does your front bar have the lower lip on it, I know a friend with his Soarer had it sticking out just over an inch, and then he fitted the stock lip to the bar, and it covered over the sticking out intercooler section.
With regards to the power to weight ratio, there is no way of changing this easily, and even to do this, you would be stung anyway, because they go by vehicle release figures, rather than 'currently altered' figures. If you where however to do this, you would have approx 200Kw at the fly, in a 1.7 tonne vehicle, so you would need another 300kgs of secured weight to meet the mark, and then if Vic Roads was a pain, they would tell you the power figure is a flywheel figure, and the Soarer is close on 240kw at the fly, meaning you need about 350kgs of secured weight.
I would just tempt it, and plead ignorant if your ever pulled over, arguing it's the heaviest 'performance saloon' on the road.

a real pitty that you want to sell it. i was on my P's when i got my TT soarer and i got it a RWC and registered at vicroads and it was all fine. Also got pulled over by the police a couple of times, but they never questioned the power to weight. Hope you can just keep it and drive the spare car around. Good luck with it all.

regards to the cooler question: It really depends on which kit you have.. I think all you can do is jack the front up, take off both wheels and all under trays and front wheel arch covers, loosen off all clamps of silicon joiners and play around with it a bit to you get it right.. Good luck

I'm on my P's, my Soarer is a TT stock. I have had no trouble with the police, never been pulled over, I doubt they will question your cars power to weight ratio, I'd say keep it and see what happens.
By the way, I'm a fellow Daewoo owner too, hopefully selling it this Wednesday, but I need to drive it tomorrow as my front Soarer tyre has been ripped on the side and I need a new tyre.
But good luck man, hope you make the right decision.

yeah i think im more than likley to sell it.. even thou the chance of me getting pulled over and the po-po's checking the power to weight ratio is slim.. id rather not have to have my car impounded because i cant drive the daewoo into work. and chris would agree with me on this .. a 96 daewoo cielo made to look like a rice burner..i cant see my boss's face looking too happy with a "professional I.T " guy like me getting out of it to go see clients.. in regards to what kyle said. if you have another car besides a soarer i could consider a swap. that is if you are being serious or not.. or if anyone wants a TT contact me.. i might be getting a RWC for it soon..

Yeah, I definitely agree with you on the riceburner Daewoo, mines twice as loud as my Soarer and I hate driving it anywhere now. Definitely get your Soarer fixed or a do a swap.

I know exactly what you mean Ben mate, up here in QLD we are going into new P plater laws, blanket of no turbo, super chargers and v8s. I have to pass my test first go to keep my limited. Too bad

Yes... your car does NOT get impounded unless you were doing something very reckless
Currently (till end of June 07) its just a fine for over power to weight however once the new rules come in after June... the fines for ALL, P plate drivers in high powered vehicles is up to a maximum of $1100 and 3 demerits.
Also currently and in the future, depending on the attitude and strictness of the person who pulls you over they have the right to not let you drive your car i.e. you must get a full licenced driver to drive it away/home which may cause some major inconvenience.
