Hi All, Need some opinions. Me and my fiance are going to drive up to queensland this holidays. We were thinking about taking her 1.5 03' mirage to cut costs on petrol.. although not sure on how it will hold up on the trip. Has anyone done any big trips in your soarers? We estimate doing about 4000kms up and back. I got a 93 TT going to service it before we leave, done 120,000kms.. never had any issues with my car.. had my radiator and pwr steering rack reconditioned not long ago. It's going to cost me heaps on petrol to take it up there, but still cheaper than flying (and renting a car) at this time of year. How do our cars go on the huge trips?

I am planning on driving my soarer from Newcastle to Brisbane over christmas. I too considered taking the missus's car (Toyota echo) but have decided to take the soarer (92TT 130,000kms). Im prepared to pay that extra money on fuel purely for the safety and comfort. I have taken the soarer on a few trips up the coast and never had a problem with the car and its always been a pleasure to drive on those long trips. I would suggest purchasing a NRMA roadside assistance membership, if you don't already have one, for that extra peace of mind.

Soarer's are made for long cruises! One of the things I love about the Soarer is that even after several hours of driving, you don't get a sore arse! I don't know how comfortable a Mirage is, but I reckon your chances of a bad back are less in the soarer. Also you will get very decent fuel economy driving on the highway. Only thing that might be a tad annoying is the 108km/h cruise control limit... Unless you have hacked yours.

Amen to every response here. You bought a fast luxurious cruising car. What else are you going to do in it? You also own a schitt box, so what else are you going to do in that?

I've driven a Mirage once from Melbourne to Brisbane - great economy but not so comfortable; I've driven my Soarer probably 6 ot 8 round trips, all non stop (except for petrol) and using the Newell Hwy, great comfort but not quite the economy of the Mirage. Personally, I'd go by Soarer every time.

The soarer would feel much more comfortable on the highways rather than getting blown off the road every time the mirage passes a truck! Soarers also seem to get decent fuel economy on the highway, i think 9-10L/100km would be possible.

Just ask Blaine Hanson, he drove all the way from Perth to Canberra and back over a year ago. And he took two soarers to make it merrier

Don't you mean "when the mirage gets blown off the road every time it gets passed BY a truck?" uphill |

I used to take the Soarer on fairly long trips (3 to 4 hours) frequently. From Melbourne to Echuca. These cars were designed for long trips. Make sure that you fix the cruise control though! In my Soarer, 108Kms on the dash = 102 Kms really, so I was always getting passed. Drove me nuts. With a fixed speedo, 117Kms = 110 exactly. Awsome!

Newcastle-Darwin-Sydney-Darwin-Newcastle and heaps of short ( 800km) trips Newcastle to Lismore/Brisbane etc. With a Kid. Comfy, arrive refreshed, and no panic attacks about having enough power and revs left to overtake the next road train. Fuel not really an issue at 100-110km. Soarer just loping along at that speed. The mirage is out of its comfort zone at 100 for so long. You will be too... Get rid of that bloody cruise limiter though.
