my car, active 838, has a noise..it only occurs when going over small pumps or holes and is coming from the rear of the car.
what it sounds like is as if the trunk is loose and bumping up and down or the parcel shelf if it could move,ie it doesnt sound metallic or bad just really really annoying!
so far in pursuit of tracking this down i have-
COMPLETELY emptied the boot,all trims,spare wheels,multichanger etc,everything.
removed rear bar!
checked exhaust
removed parcel shelf cover to check for loose things
all to no avail
i dont think its related but the car also has another noise,a metallic rotary sound when on full right lock, this is definately something rotating but i cant see anything any where near rubbing,it sounds like a disc backing cover.
im begining to think the clunk/rattle may actually be the rear subframe?! is this possible??
any ideas no matter how odd would be great!
cheers

Hmmmm, odd one Stewart. Could be rear sub-frame mounting bushes. If they are worn, but not totally stuffed the sound would be a muffled sorta "Clump" (for want of a better description!).

Wiser more experienced heads may have a more definitive answer..............have you checked with Smiffie?

yes i really need to get it on a ramp.i am having some shot vlamos lca bushes removed shortly so will ask them to inspect the rear sub bushes, will it be pretty obvious if they are dead?? i saw in another post someone selling a kit for $160 au that repaired the bushes.im guessing wear here would also cause a jolt when accelerating/decelerating?
thanks.

its more than likely the subframe moving up and down.
you need to get some nolethane supplement washers in there it has solved my noises and gave me back tyre frying action.as before the the use to bunny hop because the subframe moved up and down so much.

more like thumping sound .

best you remove wheel and stick a screw driver between suframe and chassis and see if it moves a lot.

let us know how you go.

found the scraping noise also,it was the disc rubbing on the backing plate,i suspect the balljoint pressed against the plate on full right lock.simply fixed by bending the plate back a little :-) slowly getting rid of all the noises!!
