Hey guys..I tried searching but didn't find much on ignition removal. So don't flame!

I've lost my only key to my soarer. (God damn alchohol..haha:-)) Anyways, I have had a lock smith remove the trunk lock in hopes he could get a code from the lock and cut a key. He managed to cut a key that gets into the car and can lock it..but it does not start the vehicle. It can be put into the ignition switch..unlock the steering wheel..but it won't turn over.

So basically I am stuck..

Is there place on a different lock that I can get removed that will have my key code on it? Is there a database I can cross check with that anybody has access to?

Also, I think I could remove the whole ignition itself..I just need some guidance. Is ignition removal in depth??

Please guys..any tips, tricks, insight on this matter would be great. I can't get to work..you can see my problem.

Call Toyota...they can cut you a factory key, but it won't be cheap!

I have spoken to the Toyota dealership here in Canada. They need a 16 digit VIN number..as you know soarers have 12 (I think) so they can't do that.

Oh, BTW. A few years ago my gf locked my keys in the trunk so the only dealership I could find that could do it was in New York...kinda close to you. Good Luck!

The key code should be on the drivers side door lock.

However I haven't taken mine out to check

Reason why the cut key won't turn over the engine is that inside the key fob, there's generally a teeny tiny transponder that communicates with a sensor in your ignition. If the transponder code doesn't match/is non existent, the car will not start. If you can get the locksmith the key's code, he should be able to make up a replacement coded key. I know because I do the same think, although where I do part time work, we need an original key to get the signal code, whereas proper locksmiths can program from scratch, if they know what they're doing.

Thanks guys.

Gavin I am aware that I need to get him the code. But, like I said he tried that with the numbers that were supposedly on the trunk lock and again..like I said..it doesn't make the car turnover.

Dave: Could you give me their numbeR?

Tim, your trunk lock might be from another car, with the barrel re-configured for your key.

Try the driver's door lock, as it's more likely the original lock and barrel (boots tend to get changed with wings and rear accidents, doors tend to get re-skinned, using original frame and utilities).

I wish I could remember that number, Tim. I went to the Lexus dealership here in New Orleans and they told me that the only dealership that could do it was in New York, so technically I didn't deal with them personally, my dealer did...sorry!
