When we first moved to Australia, I used to drive a van for a living. I'd never seen or heard of huntsman spiders.
Anywho, here I was driving along in traffic on Alexander Ave in South Yarra and the most enormous spider I'd ever seen did a suicide leap from the sunvisor. I shat myself. It was a case of jam on the brakes ignoring the horns of the drivers behind me and leaping out brandishing the Melway and trying to get rid of this monstrosity. I didn't know if it was poisonous or not as I'd not seen or heard of them before.
After I got back to the depot and described it, everyone laughed at me the mongrels

We have Avondale Spiders where I live - I think they are closely related to the Huntsman (they can get to a similar size anyway, and look much the same), but they are so shy you hardly ever see them - certainly never seen one in a car, and only once inside the house. Much as I like spiders, I think if one of them jumped me while I was driving I'd probably be a bit freeked too.
