Hi, everyone i am new to the car/toyota scene and have had my eye on a particular 1988 soarer. Now i don't know much about soarers and prices different editions. Now this one is a 1988 gt-tt auto for $3000. Here is the link to the add, i know it says 4800 but have managed to talk them down to $3000.

tom, err. even the next 30 series soarers are a bag of freaking problems mate and you will need to be cashed up to fix them. Therefore if you go for an older model i would look for one that has been completely restored. Else go for a newer ford or commonwhore they are prob best value for 3k imho.

Hi, They are good cars around for silly prices, people are still paranoid about fuel prices so all V8's are at silly prices. It's a buyers market, My 32 gets 9km per litre and my Commodore gets 10km per litre, a 1991 model is much better car with all new technology, They all have their hidden problems though so be careful and get someone eho knows soarers to check it out. good luck

Yeah, the biggest problem with being in perth is those kinda deals just don't come up as often or i'm not looking hard enough. What i am looking for is rwd car and this seemed to fit the bill and was just interested to see if it was a good deal but from what the responses are saying it doesn't seem so good.

No offense tom but beggers cant be choosers. You cant have a car that isnt as common as falcons and commodores for $3000 and if you do it will have a world of problems and will end up costing you more in the long run than buying a well maintained one. My word of advice is for you to save up some more cash as i get the sense you dont have a huge budget and then when you have enough to buy a Soarer be it a 20 or 30 series in good condition thats been taken care of and has minimal problems if not none at all. Just my 2 cents

Tom if you prefer the Z20 Soarers to the more common Z30 then by all means check the car out, dont be put off by people assuming newer = better because really in this price range you will find a lot of rough cars no matter how old they are, you will also come across the odd one in decent shape at a good price
Also bear in mind the Z20s are less common than the Z30s so that may have some influence on the price they sell for
The older Soarers have a dedicated following especially on forums such as Toymods, there are a few guys in Perth who im sure could give you some advice on them

While our present car is a '97 and therefore rather younger than the average, we had a '95 JZZ-31 and had no problems at all. The 3.0l n/a has fewer problems than either the TT or the V8 (no leaky power steering pump, no blinky dash etc) but having said that the 3.0l didn't start until around '94 so might be a tad more expensive. Well worth a look, but I agree with others regarding the V8, probably still quite economical and relatively trouble free (it would seem an owner on a budget should steer clear of the airbag suspension model though).
