On a Japanese site I see no indication that there they were badged other than Soarer with the Toyota logo on the rear and Griffin on the front; no side badges and no indication of capacity. In LHD they were Lexus SC300.

It's almost certainly rebadged, Jason, for whatever silly reason. We have the '95 model which is the same as yours, and as David said it has Soarer badge rear with Toyota badge in the middle of the boot and the Griffon on the front.

It's a JZZ31 3.0L (VVT-i?) 2JZ-GE powered Toyota Soarer.

Jason, go here: http://specs.amayama.com/toyota/soarer/ and find out for yourself. Search will discover other site references for you as well.

In the turbos, Don. VVTi for 3.0 n/a didn't come until 9/97. There was even a 3/97 Soarer "in the yard" in Japan same time as ours- non-VVTi, could tell by engine shots. |

the piccies on http://specs.amayama.com/toyota/soarer/ are inaccurate.... they don't show the 97 model year front bar with the changed lights etc,

More than that, Peter. The same set of pics are shown for every year from 1991 to 1999. I can identify a '94-95 among them but most of the pictures appear to be '91-'93. The specs vary as they should. http://www.motortraders.net.au shows correct front pictures by year but does not appear to offer any additional views.

thanks David, much better understanding in the soarers hierarchy now. so the jap soarers and us lexus coupes are exactly identical model for model, except badge differences, correct?

Yes, and the badge differences are made by us because our Soarers are Japanese. They were never officially sold here. Given what is currently happening on another thread, best we leave the topic right there. Badge your car as you please or de-badge it completely; just enjoy it like the rest of us do. cheers.
