I marked it with a pen where the line is. I'm not sure how obvious it's going to be if its out by one tooth but to me it looked OK. I will check other side tomorrow.

only turn engine the way it runs, move up to the crank timing mark then stop now check rotors (do not turn back to line up if you miss the mark) just start again .its all to do with the tension on the belt. good luck.

That's TDC in my first pic right? And the second is the rotor on the line. Should I go around again?

check them both at the same time, that one looks ok.

As long as you only turn engine the way it runs (clock wise} to the crank mark then check rotors you will be correct , as Tom says do it a couple of times .

Yep turning the crank the right way. So if its out it should be obvious. OK will check otherwise tomorrow and give it another turn back to TDC.

If you do go past the timing marks as you are winding it over, you can turn it back slowly but you need to go back WAY past the marks by 30 - 45 degrees or so & then come up to the marks again which by that stage will have the correct tension on the drive side of the Cam Belt & so wont give you a false reading ..

Yep no problems just to keep things simple I'll just turn it one way to make sure no mistake is made. I'm guessing if its off it will be off by at least 45 degrees? Or is one tooth going to be 10 degrees. That might not be so easy to see. Just in case it looks OK to me but isn't I'll post pics here.

Just make sure bottom mark is on 0 then check top marks, then you will know for sure

if its out you will see it on the rotors , not crank that has to stay on TDC o .

As has been said, just make sure the crankshaft pulley is on 0 degrees & only worry about that as you are turning the motor over & the cams will be either spot on or out & if out by 1 tooth only it is probably more likely to be around the 5 - 10 degree mark .. And just to confirm it, you are turning the crank pulley clock wise I hope .. And the reason i mentioned that you can turn the crank back is if you over shoot the crank mark you then have to turn the crankshaft 720 degrees, 2 complete rotations of the crank to get the camshaft's lined up again, your call on what you end up doing .. ( but if you wind it back you have to go way back past the mark & then come forward slowly again ) ..

Yep clockwise. So if I go another 360 degrees it will be completely off? Yeah I know the crank must be set to 0 as a reference point. So two full rotations equals one cycle of the motor. Think I get it. I'll do it first thing in the morning.

The camshafts turn at half the speed of the crankshaft, so the crankshaft needs a full 720 degrees rotation to make the cams rotate 360 degrees & so back to the timing marks .. I could explain a lot more but I don't think it's going to help you much for now ..

OK guys did a full 2 rotations to get back to TDC again. It looks pretty right. Maybe slightly out but its hard to say

at TDC, are both rotors "pointing at the mark" on the disti body? If not, pull the belt 1 tooth, looking at the disti and see if it now lines up. The photo above does not appear to line up.

The mirror is a good idea I won't be able to do that until later tonight or tomorrow. To me both of them look out by about 5-10mm. Its hard to judge though. Best get the mirror and show you guys but its not what I would call spot on the mark.

As above looks slightly off. Both of them. Would it even run having both of them off like this? I doesn't run that bad just won't rev out. Once its warm it runs pretty good under the 3k mark. |
