Justin , you're quite right. If you're not racing the clock , get off the track and go on a "cruise". Why bother going to a race track, if you're just gona dawdle around. Racing the clock is really only improving your own skill/confidence/car levels , anyway , that's where the adrenalin is for me.!!!

So did Gazza come to grief because he didn't have the spigot ring fitted in his rims? I always knew they were important but didn't realise how quickly and violently things could go wrong without them!

You don’t go all out fast on your first go. but like what I did gradually go faster and faster. and from racing I know I’m a better driver for it and know I can control the car in sideways situations!!. but its definatly good thing to do to learn more about how the car performs.
Garry’s crash wasn’t caused by driving to hard or trying to beat the clock, Just an unfortunate mechanical failure.

Ahh, bugger then. I thought he may have succumbed to peer pressure.
Ken, if ever we meet on a track you will find out I don't cruise, however I am always concerned about peer pressure on people in a group, especially when cars are involved.

It's a valid concern Jeff but most of us Soarer owners who go to the track would be (or should be) old enough to not be affected by inflating egos. It's not like we're 18 and driving Skylines

Good to know Jeff , I just couldn't see how any amount of peer pressure , or hard racing could cause the wheel studs to break ( short of hitting a tree or rolling it).So I couldn't relate your comment to driving style. As an aside , at least the external damage is confined to one fender ( seems to be) , as long as there is no suspension damage , repair shouldn't be too nasty. I know it's know consolation Gazza , but it's better that nothing. Last time I was at Darlington Park , the guys there told me a fellow wrapped his Porsche around a substantial gum tree , ouch !!! , they are expensive to repair. ( there are you feeling better ??)
