Hey guys!

As some of you know, my V8 got banged up about a week back, and it looks as if its gonna b a right off.

Im looking for a TT, but I want to know it the TT engine is as reliable as the V8 as long as its serviced at the right intervals eg 5000ks.

For example, my V8 just had an oil/filter change every 5000 and it was happy as larry, and I was never scared of blowing a head gasket no matter what I did to it, as long as it had coolant.

Can I expect the same with a TT or are they more demanding and high maintenance?

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Yes.

1JZ = upwards of 600rwhp on an unopened motor.

They don't suffer from build weaknesses, like the head gasket of the 7M-GTE for example.

Pretty much the only worry you'll have are the stock ceramic turbos, which are prone to failure when boosted beyond 1bar boost.
If you're keeping it stock, you shouldn't have any problems.
Labour is also cheaper, try changing a water pump on a 1UZ-FE and you'll understand why.

SOME labour is cheaper. The V8 water pump might as well be changed when you do the cam belt, in which case it doesn't add that much to the labour cost. It's a job most of us will only ever do once if at all.

That could be offset by the ease of changing the oil filter regularly and the very low cost of turbo maintenance and replacement on a V8. :-)

Spark plugs are a pain on the V8, but again, usually only every 100,000km. On the other hand TT coil packs and connectors aren't cheap.

Realistically, overall running costs on stock motors aren't much different.

1jz's are mighty tough and a lot more fun then the V8 to drive (in my turbo biased opinion LOL) There are some badly maintained TT's out there though so make sure you don't buy one of them!
