Got mine last March and done 29,000kms so far. The only thing I've had to replace is the battery about 4 months ago. Apart from that it's all the usual service stuff, some new tyres and plenty of luxury add-ons. Just about to do the plugs, diff and tranny service and anything else Neil feels is a good idea.

Bought my car at the end of March this year. Had 120,823 km's now has 131,007km's. IN that time here is my list.
- Done 2 oil changes and oil filter changes( full synthetic oil) $170 - Iridium SPark plugs ( free thanks to Mum& Dad, birthday present) $ FREE -FMIC $750 -Pod Filter $30 -Greddy Boost cut defender $110 ( 2nd hand and worth every cent)
- 13.4 @ 105.29 mph $45 entry fee Hahahaha
I guess i havent had to FIX anything yet. Only mods and lots of driving pleasure
Need to replace:-
- Passenger headlight ( brand new from toyota from a mate) $250 - Climate control LCD screen
Thats about all i need to bring her up to scratch so far. My car came with 18's,exhaust mods(still using standard dumps though), Greddy Procfec B spec II boost controller, Greddy Full auto turbo timer, Lowered(tein springs i think), and a CD player.

Had mine just on 4 years, and done many NSW-Darwin trips in her at high velocity. Only had the usual 10 year old niggles.
Clutch (after six days!) Not covered under warranty but Toy Shop felt bad and went halves anyway- good one! Drivers power window Passenger power window Passenger interior door handle Boot struts Headlight bulb door trims starting to crack- self repaired Aircon regassed many times (but no one can find a leak = very frustrating) sub needed rewiring.
also... found a major exhaust blockage that needed replacing from dumps to tips major intake blockage that needed a BFI mod and FMIC to fix considering fixing the 4wd suspension Toyota accidentally fitted at the factory with some coilovers need to fix the fuel problem-seems to cut out around 1bar...

"need to fix the fuel problem-seems to cut out around 1bar..."
I think that is caused by the standard ecu fuel cut,Get yourself a Mine's,Tom's,Blitz or an after market ecu and that should fix it.Also some of the members have got a fuel cut defender installed.

Things that actually broke:
*Intake manifold gasket, the upper one. Ended up replacing both upper and lower, and the injector o-rings. *Fuel wire from ECU to Piggy Back came 'unstuck'. Soldered it back on.
Stuff I thought was worth doing *Diff oil *Autobox oil *Brake fluid *Gen coolant *Thermostat *Big brakes/rotors/pads/braided lines *Dyno time *Rims, tyres *Full inspection ( i know, i know....) *Suspension tune (sfa to do actually, took 8mins) *Supra seats *Alarm, remote start/suroof close/windows close /mirrors fold/ central lock on fuction when locked with remote. Optional turbo timer function (not used) *Iridiums NGK7's *R&R and clean out of Intercooler *New bigass Century mother of all battery's *Cleaned out air filter and box, degreased inside of all intake pipes. (that gathers, you'd be surprised...I can see why catch cans are popular, but im scared of potential damamge of using one)
Things Im 'gunna' Do
*More Dyno..... *Trans Cooler *Oil cooler *New tint *Track tyres *Some form of bodykit (no bling) *Fit Alloy radiator (enduro) *2pot Rears
Stuff thats in the too hard/too expensive bin
*Some type of new turbocharger(s) *Convert to sequential auto using jzs161 tiptronic steeringwheel *A drivers harness and maybe a proper seat. *New Management system *1.5JZ or 2JZ depending on turbo setup at the time *400+@wheels.....funny how a year or two ago, 300rwkw was like 'OMG WTF'.....luckily 300rwkw in a soarer is likeable to 400rwkw in a Commonore/Falcodore
Bought the car in April. In mint condition from owners. Very happy, and I drive like a **** so it gets strapped everyday too.

We had to replace battery on arrival and it spent 6 weeks waiting to track down why it wouldn't go. After replacing a fried ignitor ($240) it went fine. That was the fault of wharf dudes in Auckland, not a fault with the car. The battery was around $120. The only other thing replaced (other than non-essentials like globes) was the aircon display unit which was "greying out" (blown globe?). Anyway I swapped the one from the '95 which was fine. The serpentine belt needs doing, they don't last forever so are a semi-consumable item.
It will be having a major service early next year including plugs (ND IK16, which I have already) timing belt and water pump, despite having about 165k up and it was changed at 125k, simply because servicing is so expensive on the mainland while it's cheap here.
The '97 has had 2 oil/filter changes, despite only 3000k since purchase. I'll leave the next one till we get to mainland so I can put decent oil in myself (I brought the last synthetic stuff on the plane, that's apparently a no-no although I did check with the airline first).

Things that have gone wrong with my car, since I hade it, which is about 2 years i guess, its up to 170thou k's at moment. I bought it at 125thou k's, whole steering rack needed to be taken out and revamped, blinky dash, air con, alternator due to drippy steering pump, thas about it, apart from my own fault things, ie slapping into gutters a bit hard, scrapping it, etc.

In 7 years: Power steering pump. Suspension got a bit worn so I replaced the air springs. I've had a lot of problems with wheel alignment and tramlining but the GS300 wheels seems to have fixed it.
Besides that I have used lots and lots of money on it but nothing has really gone wrong.

You have done 8000km in 16 months Nathan? Hell's Bells (and other polite old expletives)! I have two cars and still rack up the Km three times faster on the Soarer.

Everything about my car is in the other one of these threads. See Daniel's reference and further back in the archive. Essential repair has been about 10% of what I have spent and "for the fun of it" more than half.

Feed back so far has been mixed - comments like - interesting choice of car,Toyota WHAT ? ,its to big and to heavy (they may actually be talking about me) Come this Sunday I will find out,I am entered in the standard over 3 litre road class, up against turbo Series 2 RX7 & V8 Commodores.Been a few years since I have driven competetively(alright a lot of years) But instead of talking about it I am doing it, in what I believe to be one of the best designed & built cars to come out of Japan (ever) , no matter what model or year.

- Gearbox - Aircon condenser - Aircon compressor - Radiator top tank - Rear shocks - All brake rotors (to be fixed) - Coil packs (to be fixed) - Boot gas lifters - Tyres - Bunches of globes - Front bar respray/repair
The list goes on, lost count.
However i was doing my tax the other day (i claim the soarer as its considered a work vehicle) and i have spent $17,000 (how much i paid for it originally!) in the last year. That includes all repairs, servicing and fuel. Cheap! =P
I sleep easy knowing that when things are fixed, they are fixed for the better though.

I think I need a different title on this thread for me; 'What hasn't gone wrong with your Soarer since you bought it' ahahahaha.
Within 2 months, radiator top tank. Then the water pump spat the dummy. MAJOR electrical dramas caused by the timing being over a week out as a result of the belt tensioner stopped tensioning. Blown diff. Suspension had great difficulty in coping with suspending the car, replaced all springs and front shocks and bushes, rear ones on the way. Now my rear main and harmonic balancer-to-crank oils seals are on the fritz.
The way I look at it is that the car will now last just as long as it did before (FINGERS CROSSED!).

I have two cars, the Soarer and an SLR5000 Torana on straight LPG. I drive the Torana most of the time, Soarer only during hot weather or I feel like a smooth ride!
turbs twice $5200.. drivers side door and regulator $300.. spark plugs..$70.. quite a few oil changes and filters..$?? radiator top tank and all labour $900.. fuel pump ecu $150.. Tyres for 16's and 18's $1700 K&N Panel filter - $140

So far I have owned my soarer for about 2 months. I have done about 7xxxkm with it so far. This soarer was effective a fresh import as the previous owner only did 6500km with her in 3.5 years. When I cleaned her I found jap coins under the seats ect.
LCD display Heater tap battery still works just blinky dash fixed drivers door lock motor ac still needs to be regas I had a wheel alignment done as the rear tyres were slightly more worn on the inside. It was near perfect.
Oil filters, coolant A/C filters list goes on for normal service items.
I also had a alarm immobislier installed for insurance purposes.
Gee looking at it like that it all adds up to quite a bit.
But I guess the car drives like a dream, engine runs smooth and the turbos seem fine.
So if nothing unexpected goes wrong it will be well worth it.

I had the same feeling, Daniel, when I added mine to about $20K in 18 months (excluding routine costs) but, like I said, a tenth would have kept the car safe and on the road and over half was to satisfy my own psychological problems
You also have to compare these costs with depreciation on a comparable car purchased new. An SC430 costs $160K new and in two years you can wave goodbye to $50k plus routine costs without doing a thing to the car. With everything I have thrown at the Soarer, it was still no more expensive than doing nothing to the IS300. If you are looking for the cheapest car then an old luxury car is not it but the value for money is sensational
