They found a few things wrong with it:

-Front R/H shock (leaking)
-Front R/H lower ball joint (badly damaged)
-Front lower bushes (worn out)
-Rear R/H Upper bushes (worn out)

He said that I need to take care of the ball joint as soon as possible. Where can you get this for the Soarer? Does anyone have a part number?

You need a new Lower Control Arm as the ball joints aren't a separate item.

Either hit the wreckers or hurt your wallet at Toyota.

Damn! How expensive is the control arm?

Also is there an alternative such as rebuilding?

Velly deer!

The ball joint is the problem, no alternative.

From what I know, the TT and UZZ30 are the same, but the UZZ31 and UZZ32 are different due to the different suspension.

Apparently some Supra arms will also fit and are cheaper, but I don't recall anyone trying it in Australia.

Hopefully someone with more or better information will kick in here.

I dont know how much they would cost to buy down here but,
I've found that it is a load cheaper to get lexus/toyota parts sent over from the USA.

I just bought two tie rod ends front the USA.
From the US it cost me $90 delivered to my door.

To get them down here they were going to cost $350...WTF

Steve posted while I was thinking :-)

Looks like you can save $1 by buying a pair on E-bay instead of one at a time :-)

go to a wrecker... just make sure its got some good bushes before you pay for it. I got mine for $70 with a good set of bushes (very cheap i thought). Just tell them you were quoted 100 from another joint and see what they say :-) lol

The difference between the TT/uzz30 and The 31's
is where the adjustable suspension rod bolts on
the TT and uzz30 do not have the tag on the lower control arm to bolt it too.

The Supra LCA's are a direct bolt in replacement for the Soarer LCA's, BUT they're very slightly shorter???, which means you get a slightly firmer ride than standard, but still VERY acceptable.

They will NOT fit a UZZ31, as there is no cast lug for attaching the height control rods to.
Nor does it fit a 32, as they don't have the extra mounting lug required.
They DO fit ALL 30 series Soarers with coil suspension.

The Supra bushes are also a firmer design, giving you a more "Locked down" feel to the suspension.

The Supra LCA's are heaps cheaper to buy from Toyota.

Part numbers for the JZ80are as follows:

48068-14080 (RH.Lower control arm 5/93 - 5/96)
48069-14080 (LH.Lower control arm 5/93 - 5/96)

48068-14090 (RH.Lower control arm 5/96 - )
48069-14090 (LH.Lower control arm 5/96 - )

Note: The later ones are purported to be cast alluminum, and are a LOT dearer than the early cast iron ones, however, they are also a direct fit.

Hi Cristian,

If you have any problem finding the parts, just go to S&LC and they can help you to find the parts.

I also went to Pedders do a four wheel alignment and the guy cant do it because he told me my front cross member was damaged.

So i went down to S&LC and they went to the back of their workshop and found one for me but they are not happy with the one they have.

Then they found another one for me from the wrecker and fitted for me for $182.

You should see the back of their workshop, its have lots of parts!!

So since I have to changed the control arm on the right, should I order some Vlamos bushes for both left and right control arms?

pedders are totally full of crap .. i would take it to someone else for another opinion.

i had lew change all the bushes in the front of my car... and then i took it to pedders the next week.. and they said that my front lower and sway bar bushes were screwed.... when in fact they were 1 week old....

im not saying they are unhonest at every store.. but they are in it to make money.. so they would tell u anything..

the test pedders does is insane anyway... where on earth would u experience anything similar to the test they do.. if anything it would screw your suspension up further...

wont suit a 30' series soarer or supra.
Chasers have different suspension components.

Don, if the arms are shorter could you compensate by using a lower offset?

Lindsey, any business will depend on the people in it. My experience with Pedders has been good, as many other people have also reported.

Stating that all their stores are bad is like saying that all SC posters are bad just because of a couple that are too lazy to type properly.

Their test is mainly to see how the shockers are coping, it measures how well they dampen vertical movement of the wheel. It's quite valid.

well they do tend to charge excessively, but i spose most big suspension places do.

I just had some coil-overs installed and pedders quoted me $470 (i called two different stores), Fulcrum quoted $420 so I got them installed by Jack Beedhams (redcliffe) for $220, including raising the spring/ride height and full suspension check over.

Its amazing how much companies will charge if they dont know anything about imports.

I had another shop tell me "we dont do soarers" i said why, and he said, "because its an import". lol...

anyway, I agree with Peter, but generally, big name places will charge you more just because their considered to be better than small workshops and they can put their name behind their work.

Dunno Peter, I'm not well versed enough in suspension dynamics to give a diffinative answer.

BUT, guys in the States & UK, have fitted em with no negative effects over stock whatsoever.

The difference as I understand it (length) is minimal.

Might as well do the set, unless you are buying a new arm from Toyota which will have new bushes in it.

Don, can you expand on this at all please? Will it have an effect on the overall geometry? Do both the front LCA and rear LCA from the Supra fit on the JZZ30?

Any ideas on a cost-effective replacement for the UCAs?
