Just pull yours apart and solder in some new capacitors. Easy fix ECU capacitors: 33uf, 35V 15uf, 35V 47uf, 63V 220uf, 10V 100uf, 10V

...and fix all the corroded tracks if it has gone that far (if it don't go then it probably has gone that far). If it is real bad then the input processing chips for the cam sensor will be dead. I can give you the type numbers but they are pure Unobtainium; not even from Nippon Denso or Toyota. I have a couple of rebuilt ECUs here. $300 ea + postage.

Yeah and AU$300 is only about US$200. The point is that a 2nd hand ECU is just that and extremely likely to develop exactly the same faults whereas mine is a reco job and guaranteed.

Richard, they're all just as old as each other mate. It takes some time to perfect the reconditioning process and Mark's done enough of them to know where the problems occur. You might change the caps and it may work for a while, but if its on the way, the tracks and solder joints of everything else is probably going down the same path. For an extra ~50 USD, your practically getting a new ECU that's guaranteed to last another 15 years, instead of years, months, days or maybe a few hours. Fair call?

Hm... that is a valid point. What are we talking about total cost to my address in the US?

US ECU's tend to be slightly different. At the very least, they do not have the speed limit set to 180 kph. The US SC400 also had Exhaust re-circulation, which is not present on the Jap Spec V8 soarers. However, the ECU should still work ...

Except that the ECU he wants is for a 1JZ in an SC so I assumed he needed a Jap spec one. What numbers does the existing ECU have on the cover?

im not at the ECU, but i think 36 a/t. The US spec JZZ's never came with the 1JZGTE. We got the 2JZGE. I swapped them. The 1JZGTE is plug and play into a US Spec JZZ31 SC300. The body still retains all the SMIC holes and mounting studs too
