Hello Team,

I realise the posting in the general section may not be spot on , but im working on the fact that im goin to ask TWO questions and to save thread hogging in other areas.

QUESTION 1) *for the wheel / suspension GOOROOs}

Im looking around for some new} rims at the moment as i would like to upgrade from my 17s with a +15 (read REALLY INCORRECT) offset to a set of 18s.

Ive found a set im keen but the offset differs from the fronts to the backs, is this normal ?

The fronts are: 18x8.5 +46 5x114.3

The rears are : 18x9.5 +48 5x114.3

I doubt ill have the opportunity to test fit (as they have no rubber on them) so would it be a safe assumption these would be aight ?

QUESTION 2 - for all the TURBO GOOROOs

Ok ive also been looking at a turbo kit to replace my stocko twins.
The kit uses a HKS 30/40 Ballbearing Turbo
and i think the rear housing is rated at 1.06 (also has HKS manifold, wastgate etc etc)

I thought that may be a little large as i dont want a lag monster, would a .84 housing be a better match for the 1jz ?

I look forward to hearing people's opinions / tips/ ideas.

Gotta love Team Soarer...

A ~.8 rear housing on a GT30/40 is about perfect for a 1JZ if you want something relatively responsive. Expect full boost (about 16psi) by about 3500.

cheers for rapid response mate,

so would a 1.06 rear housing really be a lag monster ? like full boost at 5000 or sumfin ? coz i dont think i would appreciate that .... well maybe haha

the different offset is ok because the rims are wider or something like that..... nothing to worry about anyway!

I have The same size, but with +37 offset with lowered springs also, my rear guards are getting rolled tomorrow as the top outer edge of my tyre hits the guard going over holes in the road.

With your offset, it should be fine providing your car isn't 1cm off the ground.

0.8 Much better for the 1jz. Wont miss out on too much power, but a very strong setup indeed. Making for less lag and good performance:-)

0.8 much better size for a street car, For Utmost HP, 1.06. But for good power and streetability.. 0.8 FTW :-)

My 2 cents

Haven't had any experience with the 1.06 rear of the 3040 on a 1JZ, but I wouldn't expect it to make it a 5000rpm lag monster, probably more like roughly 500-1000rpm more than the 0.82 to make full boost.

Thats just a guesstimate though mate to give you a general idea.

Look a gt3040 is a medium sized ball-bearing turbo so it will spool up nice and quick even with a 1.06 rear, I'd say 4000rpm full boost is what you should expect.

Hi guys,

cheers for the tips on the wheels i can put that down as SORTED.

As for the turbo setup, jury is still out. but i see that Mark and Paul are both running GT35r's so i guess you guys would have good idea.
What rear housing do you lads run ? Full boost at 3500 for a .84 seems pretty solid considering my turbos are only just hittin that around then (i think)

I agree Daniel about the housing, i would probably prefer a .84 for really responsive driving, but if a 1.06 rear isnt goin to be TOO laggy i would probably still be keen as i do like the kick of a big spool up (my mate just bought an R32 GTR wit a TO4S on it and that hits pretty hard, is upgrading to a TO4Z ballbearing when he saves enough - it ran an 11.5 at 129mph for anyone who is interested)

James - I'm running a Garret GT3040R on mine. I cant remember whether I went with the 0.84 or maybe .72 (0.76??)housing - definitely wasnt 1.06 anyways.

I'm hitting full (17psi) boost at 3400rpm in 4th gear at the moment (w58 box), making 330rwhp on 440cc injectors at about 95% duty cycle. No lag, responsive as buggery, and plenty of potential to run 20-22psi once I have bigger injectors sorted.

Just to give you an idea.

Tell him to smash gears, that MPH is enough for a 10.8 :-) haha

Mine isn't that laggy at all, with a 0.82 rear housing on a GT35R. But then again, I have an auto, and it's really hard to notice lag when all you do up a hill is roll on the throttle a little bit and it changes gears and hits gate.

Once I get a better feel for it I'll let you know exactly what RPM it hits full boost at.

Also, you have to look at why you would go 1.06 rear. It probably wont be that laggy etc, but the 0.84 rears already flow enough to ensure it doesn't taper off at the top end.

If either Shane's car or mine felt slow at the top end (similar to how the stock turbos feel) then I would be telling you to go 1.06.

To be honest, I'd love to see a GT30R with a 0.64 rear housing on it (like what the SR20 guys use) put onto a 1JZ, the response of that would be insane, even if it did taper off a little to the top end, that would be the ultimate turbo for a responsive Auto 1JZ.

Thats something i would go for Paul. IM not after max HP, but after good streetable power that would still perform on the track. I guess the Smaller 0.64 housing would help boost spool a little earlier as well?

Paul:- Are you considering changing Camshafts with your set-up? 256 or 264 items or something similar?

Hi Guys,

this is great info, hopefully others are gettin some good tips on it too.

One small question re the wheels again, is it safe to assume that i would have to buy 35 profile tyres yeh ?

probably 265/35/18s on rear and 225?/35/18 on front for 9.5 and 8.5" rims respectivly.
