Thought I'd post this as some have expressed interest in how a standalone/manual only computer could be used with the a340e automatic transmission and still retain automatic shifting.

As some of you are aware, I brought a suprastick V4 from the USA and installed it with the standard computer installed. This worked great, automatic shifting etc.. However the OD button had to be switched off otherwise you get ect errors on the dash and also the auto shifter itself could still change/hold gears.

Now I have installed a power fc and things have changed again. The gearbox still changes the same as before, however now the shifter doesn't seem to do anything other than Reverse, park, neutral and drive, and the OD button no longer needs to be switched off.

When changing gears it seems to be the same smoothness as before, however I do run a MV 1.5 shift kit.

The idle is a bit tricky on the auto as you have idle in park and idle in drive. What it seems to do is, idle in park when cold as normal, then when shifted into drive it drops some revs, about 100rpm and then builds this back up again to were it should be. However when engine is warm, dropping into drive doesn't seem to change the revs much at all, but dropping into park from drive when warm, makes revs jump about 200rpm then it settles quickly. I have set my warm idle to 800 with a/c off and 900 with a/c on, mostly due to the bigger injectors. The cold is set to 1400rpm for both.

In all, it works pretty well. With the addition of a late model steering wheel that has the buttons on it to change gears up and down, you could have a modern semi automatic setup using the suprastick and full standalone engine management.

Tell me when you get to that stage mate as I'm seriously considering going down your route in the next few months. Out of interest though, what does this late model steering wheel look like? I always thought a late model Soarer steering wheel would be exactly the same as the previous models.

I think its from a supra or chaser, something like that. Neil would know the exact vehicle. I would be after one that has already blown the air bag, got no need for it.

24,000yen? Not bad. I do like the JZS16* series steering wheels though. They would look right at home in my car once I get them retrimmed to match the car.

How would those buttons work Ben? Leave it in D then program the SupraStick to change gears manually via the buttons?
