Anything's possible. I got mine for $17,000 at the beginning of last year. I would assume that prices have gone down. The only hard bit is actually finding a late Twin Turbo model as they don't come by often. Most TTs for sale are '94 and under.
Are you sure it's a '96 TT you want and not the later series '97+ VVT-i single turbo? The VVT-i single turbo was also introduced at the end of '96 I believe..

Six months ago I picked up a freshly imported 95 with 68K on the clock for 12K. Not in excellent condition, but definitely very good. In six months I've had to replace the shocks, but everything else is running beautifully.

Mines a 96 TT . Guy was asking 24 k for it . Was in the market for 6-8 months then i came along and bought it or 19 k. Interior was the best ive seen in any soarer.
Fresh import 4/97 single turbo, L-pack and black (pity no sunroof). I purchased that with a displayed 55k on the clock for $24000 2 years ago. Double the kms on it and she still purrs like a kitten, I have no complaints with it at all.
