Okay I am curious here, so hence started the thread. I have read other topics in the forum regarding importing of cars, but half the time some of the information I am after is not there (or if it is it has been lost somewhere in the thread). I am looking at possibly purchasing something like an Aristo or even a Chaser interestingly enough.
I know that there have been alot of people that have been burnt when using unreputable companies (and heck even found out that the other day that somebody bought a car over ebay for $16000 and paid for it and now can not get hold of the seller or what's happening with his supposed purchased vehicle). So scary thing I know.
I have been looking at Prestige Motorsport to get my head around this. From what I figure, the cars are cheap (which is a good thing) and then of course you have the other costs associated with it. I have worked out (using the Prestige spreadsheet) that I could get an Aristo for roughly $11,500 complied and licensed. This is using figures for WA (I believe it is very different in other states).
Is it worth doing this, seeing as most dealers on places like carsales.com are selling these cars with at least a $4000+ markup in certain cases? Or is it better to actually just pay the extra and get some sort of a warranty with the car from a dealer?
There's also the added worry about not having driven the vehicle, anything that the wharfies could do to the car, and unknown repairs that would need to be done on the car, that could theoretically eat up those $4000 savings quite quickly. But then being Toyota, it would be pretty okay as they tend to be reliable.
For interests sake I would be getting at the most an Aristo 3.0L non-turbo (I think it's the 3.0Q model).

I think I'm starting to loose count Callum. Just thinking, querying, researching and playing around with a few things at the moment. But if I did sell my Soarer and bought an Aristo or Chaser (probably Aristo) then it would be my 9th. Let's see I have had a

Wow I had no idea I had that many.
I must be crazy.

Two of my Friends have used prestige and both were very impressed with his service.
They pretty much told him what they wanted and he looked for it and called them when he found the right one or something quite close.
When you import one, try and get one with with basic mods like suspension, wheels, exhaust and the like as they are easy to replace back to stock for compliance and you get all that stuff to put back on afterwards.
