Hey guys in no way do I condone drag racing on the street and I for the past 5 years have drag raced my cars I have owned at Eastern Creek WSID. I hae had over 400 passes + easy. Anyway to the story went for a drive to Sans Souci to eat some kebabs (best kebabs in Sydney) with 2 friends of mine in my Soarer. I realised I left my wallet and drivers licence at home. My friend told me if the cop wants he can deduct 2 points from me. So I let one of my friends drive for the night. While my other friend was in the front seat, and I am in the back. Don't ask I was in my car and in the back seat, lets just say my friend in the passenger is a big big boy. Anyway, on the way home on the hume highway with my friend driving. We saw a car behind us absolutley flying at a speed I though it might be a cop with his sirens off or something, he flew past us at a rate which might of been approaching 150kph in a 80kph zone. The lights went red ahead and when we got closer I looked at the badge and it said AMG CLK 55. We are just sitting here at the lights us in the middle lane this AMG monster in the left lane. My car is a stock no mods 1995 Soarer Twin Turbo. The lights go green my mate unexpectedly puts his foot straight down on the throttle. We took off a fraction of a second before he did. At the end of 1st gear he already caught us and put 1/2 a car length on us. At the end of 2nd gear he must of been 3 to 4 car lengths ahead and pulling away the whole time. We ran again same out come we were a bit closer. Anything with a AMG badge I know is quick but the way this car left us was amazing. I had me and 2 friends in the car. My mate John is easy 130+ kg, my mate who was driving Joe is 120kg + an I am around 100kg. Add to that 5 minuted before I filled up the whole tank with fuel around 75 litres. The little Soarer did me proud. It's time for some mods. Sorry for the long post guys. But it was awesome seeing a $200,000 + leave my Soarer in the dust.

| Hehe, I was in the same boat a few months ago, always wanting to run against a Porsche, but never getting the chance on the strip. I run a pretty much stock TT Soarer, it has pod and exhaust, and that's it. Anyways, coming home I got owned by an already in motion Boxter off the lights, he was approaching when the lights went green, so I was still standing when he was doing 40km/h. Anyway, got to the next lights and we both pulled up side by side, light went green and I was off, flat-chat to the speed limit, and realised he wasn't trying. Got to the next set of lights, and both of us neglected to see the speed camera warning signs. Anyway, lights went green, we both floored it, both kicked slightly sideways, and took off side by side completely the same, until he changed gears, and then I kept accelerating and managed to pass him. Then I spotted the camera, and both feet jammed onto the brakes after realising I was 15km/h over the limit (I dont condone racing, speeding, or anything dangerous at all, and I was stupid for even participating). Anyway, I managed to grind to a complete stop, riht in front of the sensors, but he went flying over the sensors, and we both got flashed. I have since had my fine overturned, due to the photo showing my car 1 meter before the sensors. Dont know about him, but it's funny to see an $80,000 Porsche get overtaken by a Soarer that cost me $5,000 I do have to admit, I have driven Porsches before, and it has to be something about the driver, not the 2 cars!! | yeah i know how you feel well you can spend all the money you like i have spent close to 12k just on mechanical mods on mine and was sitting next to a SL65 AMG on the highway 100kms and both foot down next to each other. I got a head start by bout 2seconds or so but this thing pumped me like i was not moving never am i racing another amg merc again pure brilliance. |

I have driven a SL65 AMG my uncle owns one. Its black, black timts, Black 20 inch rims. Its an absolute weapon. What were you thinking lol. Especially from a 100kph roll that think will beat a Murcielago from a 100kph roll. My uncle hardly drives the car. He owns an olive farm in Silverdale next to Waragamba Dam. He might drive the car once a week. His son, my cousin Con has a 1999 WRX STI with a lotttttttttttt of mods on his car. It has 366KW at the wheels. And they raced from a 60kph roll against the SL65 (His brother Archie was driving it) I was in the Merc and the STI beat him by like 5 car lengths down the highway. Popping 1 metre flames out of the STI. That is still the best race I have ever seen. My cousins STI has only ran once at WSID and has done a 11.1@132mph without hitting the NOS. So these AMG's are beatable but you need to spend money and spend money hard.

I love AMG's, when i was living in London there was a guy in our apartment building who drove an SL55 AMG (510hp supercharged 5.5L) also had aftermarket bits on it - i still think its the best sounding car i have ever heard!

The CLK 55 AMG is the 5.5 litre normally aspirated version. Has 280KW and over 500nm torque thats the one I raced against. They do low 13's stock but have close to 110mph traps by looking at some websites. So A Soarer with 15psi, Full Exhaust, Front Mount, Computer should give it a go but my money is still on the AMG CLK 55 to start to pull away as the speeds get higher. SL 55 AMG or a SL65 AMG, don't even bother unless you have 300RWKW+ in your soarer. Both of these cars will trap at over 120mph stock.

Hey Daniel, how's the car going. You racing this Friday at WSID. I might give the Soarer a go this Friday if not wednseday night for me. I haven't drag raced in like 5 months. And the last time I drag raced was like in April. And I wasn't racing my car was racing a friend of mine's Mini Cooper (Mr Bean shape car) with a starlet turbo motor running like 18psi. I ran a best of 13.3@111mph my friend who owns the car ran a PB of 13.1@110mph. The Mini was a weapon. lol. Pity he sold it. My friend Joe who used to own the Mini was the one who was driving my Soarer when the AMG CLK 55 spanked us. It was funny hearing him screaming out when he was racing "Oh my God, are you sure this cars turbocharged, I wish I had my Mini". "What was I thinking, sorry for wasting your petrol". lol.

I was out w/ the gf and had a few drinks, no way buzzed, and we pulled next to a Ferrari Spyder at a red light. Wanting to show off, I timed the green perfect and left him in the dust, obviously he didn't know we were racing, hehe. Then came the second red light and nose to nose again, I looked over and saw him grinning, I was scared b/c I knew I was about to get owned in front of the gf!! LOL My SC is a 2JZ, so you get the idea! What a wonderful sound Ferraris make leaving you in the dust!! Doh!

My uncles got a nice Black E55 AMG over in America, goes like no other car hes had. Still hes selling that and coming back here to New Zealand next month so It might be good to bribe him into some car Id prefer him to get. He was that impressed with my soarer and celsior he knows Id probably know a nice enough car for him to chose I was thinking due to the prices a VE Holden of some sort? Perhaps the Senator. He already had a new 1997 Senator back in Sydney and they have come a long way since so could be an idea... Probably looking at around 75-95k mark any other idea of decent cars that are V8's to fit in that bracket?

Jeremy Clarkson was very disappointed with the SRT-8's performance in comparison to the "Vaxhaul" Commo. He said it felt sluggish off the line and the handling was appalling. But then he does hate American cars with a passion. I'd take the new Commodore on looks alone, the 300C is damn ugly, especially from the back. Tell him not to buy new - its a waste of money anyway. Then he could get say, a nice late model LS430, or even a late model Jag.

Hmmm I think the Holdens seem to be the best bang for buck and they are a brand new design over most things. He did show some interest in them last time he was here too so. The HSV range is quite good - Senator seems nice with 307kw and different from the rest of the other ve models. Plus he did have one 10 years ago so might be temped for a new and much better version than the old 215kw one.

I used to drive my old boss's CL600 around, and that was an absolute marvel to drive. They drive smooth, clean, confortable, but most importantly, they are BLOODY QUICK!!!! Not sure if he still owns that car now, but man he was not afraid to drive the damn thing, he was an arab, and we have all seen the lack of fear they have behind the wheel. Out of respect I wouldn't even try to challenge such a car, but I have always wanted to hammer a Porsche, so I needed at least a base line before knowing my modifications list :p

Got completely raped by an old man in a Viper the other day. I was on the highway (speed limit 75mph no traffic) going about 70 in the right lane. I saw him coming up behind me so I sped up a little bit. He slowed down next to me and revved his engine a bit, so I revved mine back. By this time we had slowed down to 60-65 (this is the WORST speed to try to pull on a Viper.) I started in 3rd gear because my 2nd tops out at around 57, and accelerated and gained a little ground on him. He punches it and leaves me in the dust by about 6-7 car lengths by the time we get back up to the speed limit. DAMN!!!

I was driving home from WSID late last year after running a high 12 at the time (less mods than now), and an AMG C55 (or CL55? Dunno) kept on trying to race me, so I gave him what he wanted. It went pretty good! I pulled 1-2 car lengths on him between 100 and 180kph! The passengers in his car were giving me the thumbs up as I edged past.

i was passing through town when i was caught at the last set of lights at the base of the southern outlet in launceston. Beside me as we rolled through the yellow lights at 60kms was a maroon datsun 1200 ute with an SR20DET conversion, some guy driving it,.. we both hit the gas as soon as we crossed the intersection and hit the 110km/h zone. My twin turbo soarer in Drive and with NORM selected, foot to the floor only JUST pulled away from him. Considering my car weighs twice as much and power to weight ratio would be substancially less, i felt like it wasnt bad. My soarer runs so so so much faster in PWR mode. does anyone even know what the difference is in accelleration? it feels completely different between the two options when you put the foot down.
