Terrible loss at such an age, Sympathy for the families involved. I agree Ben, Looks to be a very high speed crash, the mangled door with a door trim still attached is over a car length away resting on that pole, a lot of force required to rip the door from the hinge thats for sure. Also another indicator is if you look closely in the picture the drivers seat head rest is clearly visible... Just terrible.

It's a shame though how it was just so unnecessary. Young people in powerful cars tend to want to speed more than most people which can be a bad combination due to lack of skills and all that. I at a similar age have seen a lot of others around my age do immature examples of driving which Im not at all fond. A lot the cases come down to peer pressure, easily a factor when you had 5 people in this Soarer... Personally & being honest I try avoid any potentially dangerous driving on the roads these days. The risks are just far to great for other motorists, the drivers themselves and getting into trouble with the police etc. So it's only ideal to use the power and driving ability of these cars on the 1/4 & tracks. Other wise Im quite happy to have the car simply parked up and polish/clean various parts inside out or service other bits. Which Im quite proud of. Rather than doing burnouts and illegal driving at night like a lot of people my age tend to do, for me that does not appeal at all. I guess thats why Ive gained an almost 'Old man' style with owning these cars I don't show off to people when the want me too or encourage it. I like to stick to my principles and be sensible.

"...and injured the four other cadets who were in the Lexus coupe." It's a Soarer you n00bs! (although by the look of that picture, I'm surprised there was anything left by which the car could be identified at all... that dude must have been hooking it) I agree Mike... I didn't buy mine as a street weapon. It's just the best car to drive that my budget could allow... my last car was a piece of crap. Until I started doing my Soarer homework prior to purchasing it, I wasn't aware of the die-hard following these cars attracted, which ended up being a major influence on me buying it. Some of these speed demon children could really benefit from a support network such as this forum.

Yeah thats a good point Glen, far too many young people just buy these sorta cars with out researching a thing and basically speed, flogging the ass of them till they break, resulting in them either being injured or left scratching their head thinking what next car they will get to ruin. Thats why this kinda forum is brilliant at creating a world of fixes, tutorials and general chat to make Soarer ownership more than just owning another Japanese import, keeps people potentially out of trouble in some ways. (Rant time - slightly off topic but potentially in relation to this sort of event) Still your always going to get fools, example I kid I met at a drag event at the start of the year picked up a limited similar to the one I recently bought for a cheap price. Really liked the car and all that but generally had no idea about what he had, treated it kinda like any old Jap car. For example, he showed me a 'trick' by going into the boot and disconnecting the airbag suspension solenoid lines so the bags deflated right down to the stops! My jaw dropped a bit and I stated you know your potentially ruining your bags by splitting them?? It might look 'cool' but your potentially ruining the airbags so they leak. He didn't seem to care. I also noted you may as well put some cash aside to replace the airbags with coils as the car was around the 200k mark so they would be getting tired and leak making the car non drivable, yet he persisted on wanting to get wheels and other unnecessary parts instead. Another example was the engine problems, It had a faulty fuel ECU which I found by me doing the bypass diagnostics port trick for him so it put a constant 12v to the fuel pump. I then told him its only temporary and he should find a replacement ECU but he didnt bother as far as I know and treated it like it was fix and continued flogging it around even more. What also annoyed me was he wanted to put a pod filter straight onto the end of the AFM, I strongly recommended he do a BFI which I would have shown how to make up... but he thought that would be useless compared to a K&N pod filter so did that instead. I took it for a drive and it didnt seem to perform that well, didnt sound that great either! At least it was interesting for me as it showed the BFI is a true 1# Mod that beats everything else. Anyway classic end to the situation, a few weeks after this I heard from some one else this kid knew that told me he had lost his license and had the car impounded which didn't surprise me at all...... he apparently did a huge burnout outside a garage he worked at showing it off to a bunch of people that worked there and while that was happening a cop was watching across the road, which watched the entire thing, then came over to him when he was done! The rest his history.. I might be going on, but some of the above examples just piss me off, its just a shame how because these vehicles are generally cheap now these sort people buy them and treat them with no respect. Not much you can do but It makes me glad I look after mine and the people on this forum do the same.

The picture used in the newspaper itself shows still more clearly how comprehensively the car was destroyed, yet these are well built and quite protective cars. For the police to suspect he was speeding (it is a 60 zone) is no doubt putting it mildly. He was near the end of a straight stretch but had not yet reached a curve in the road.

Some are registered as 5 seater cars. It's interesting to see another Soarer wreck of such magnitude keeping it's body shape relatively in shape but losing it's roof. I wonder how they would rate if put through a modern series of crash tests. |

I would say Jaws of Life were probably used. Re Lexus thing, not really time or place. It had a Lexus badge, it was a coupe, it's a Lexus coupe to them. It's not the sort of fact you would spend hours researching given the context of the article. |

Further, they were asking people to come forward if they had seen a "blue Lexus coupe". Note just the use of a brand, and lack of a model name. Given it carried Lexus badges, how helpful would it be for police to ask if anyone had seen "a blue Toyota coupe with Lexus badges"? Fat chance of a response.

I was driving down the same stretch about 5 hours before the crash, its a long and poorly lit bit of road. The surface is pretty dodgy too, lots of shiny patches and grooves worn into the surface from heavy vehicles. Having said that, it would be an easy place to build up a lot of speed.

Wow...the car looks horrible. I find i used to speed alot more until i got my cruise control, for some reason i just set cruise control and find no need to speed :/. Its weird, amongst all that wreckage, the door looks great.
