Hi all,

If there's anyone who has spare time, is in Melbourne and has the know-how to help me with some Soarer related mechanical issues, pm me please.

Thanks

Just want to learn to service the Soarer myself basically... and if anyone can be bothered helping me out that would be good.

I know there are some very detailed tutorials out there, however I would like to SEE it done rather than READ it done...

That why we include pics wherever we can. Be brave, pick a simple job and have a go. :-)

Yes, I agree Peter and that is my philosophy also, but some things are more complicated than others and can have widespread consequences if you don't know what you are doing. At the moment can't drive the Soarer and it's my only car so I'm just a bit reluctant to 'trial' anything on my own and do more damage to it (yes, best way to learn is by giving it a go and doing it yourself...).

Anyway, I'm just calling out to those that can be bothered and are willing to help, pass on a pm to me. If not, then so be it

Probably best to put up specifically what you need/want to learn.

LOL Tim that's not a bad idea!

Kyle, I need to do a timing belt/water pump replacement. Got a few quotes and they were much too expensive... One place quoted me around $400 just for the water pump (excluding labour)! So I thought I'm better off learning to do it myself.

PS. I'm aware of the toymods forums' guide, however, as stated above don't really want to go down that path...

Hakan

The toymods tutorial is so detailed it's all you need! Just make sure you set your timing to top dead centre before you start. It's even easier than it looks. The hardest part will probably be getting the bolt out of the harmonic balancer, but there are a few threads on here addressing this issue.
Honestly mate, it's so easy I pulled mine off again twice just for fun! (first time water pump leaked, second time the timing was out by one notch. ) Funny now, not quite so much at the time!
From memory the parts cost me around $600 -$700 from Castle Hill toyota, all available ex-stock.

Best of luck with it!

Finally got water pump/timing belt replaced!

It was as difficult as I anticipated and much more! especially those bolts on the back of the water pump...
Extremely small hands? Very understated. Didn't have any trouble with the harmonic balancer.

However it IS a fantastic guide and I do thank the author of the toymods tutorial (if he's a member here) I learned a lot doing it myself.

And thanks to you guys, appreciate it
