No point trying to extract more power from the GE motor. For the price, you'd be better off buying a TT soarer an dgoing from there: Better everything to start with.

As Daniel says
"My Advice is, Enjoy the car you have, Save all your cash int he meantime, then when you get off your P's Sell up and buy a nice turbo model"
Take that advice Tom.
Ive had a 3.0GT like what you had but they will never be fast if you throw money at them unless you turbo it or swap a turbo motor into it. Your looking at around $3000 or so for both jobs minimum to get it done. Problem is it would void your P plate license being more powerful then.
Just enjoy it, save your money and get a quicker one when you can afford it and legally can.
3.0GT's are still fun, simple and nothing to go wrong.

There are a few 2jzge NA-T making around 400rwhp on the stock internals. There is a complete kit on the supra forum at the moment, http://www.supraforums.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=50806 You could go different and supercharge it.

MY TURN FOR AN OPINION!
I say give the middle finger to the jzz31, not because i think they are crap (you can find some very pretty cars of this ilk) but because you are already talking about wanting to mod it.
I am against the idea of getting a jzz31 now, then selling it and getting a uzz/jzz30 because you will have to spend money to keep the jzz31 going now... then spend money to keep your new one going later.
If you are keen on getting a Soarer and you are keen on modding it and going PSSTSSHHHH then you should go out and get yourself a crummy little Celica (not saying Celicas are crummy, but you should get a crummy one) to piss fart around in until you are legally able to drive a more common Soarer... then get the Soarer of your dreaaaamssss.
Just dont put a god damn Milo tin on the Celica for goodness sake!

My 2 cents: No. Enjoy the car as a quiet, reliable and nice daily. It will need extensive modification to be fast which means $$$. When you're off your P's and if you want a modified car, buy one that has done a lot of work already, and finish it off to your taste. You will save a lot of money that way and still get your performance. One of my mates poured over $160,000 in his supra, made over 1100rwhp, and then ended up selling for $30,000 a few months later. If you're after big power and don't care about handling or quarter mile times, then after you're on your opens, swap a worked 2j with a big single. Will probably still only run 12's but will be nice on the highway. Trying to take a heavy, underpower JZZ31 and bend it to be a high performance (whether that means tpo speed, acceleration, cornering, etc) race car isn't going to work out to your favour. They make awesome, comfortable dailies as that's what they were made to do.
No offense to anyone with a tuned jzz31, just my opinion.

Just keep your NA till your off your P's and then sell it and buy a TT. At least if you do any Visual mods now you should be able to swap them on to the TT later on.
The JZZ31's seem to be holding decent value because of the new restrictions for P platers so you might end up with a TT and a bit of extra cash in your pocket.
