Just got back from the Qld cruise and I was testing out the newly acquired Unichip.
The bastards that fitted it didn't tell me about all the extra tyres I'm going to need now. Crikey, what a difference. I feel the car is now complete. Should have had this much grunt from the word go.

Mike do you have any before and after dyno charts.

Typically there is only a 10-12% gain from tunning with a piggy back unless something was wrong with a sensor or ECU before it was tuned which can result in larger gains correcting for another fault.

Damien, yes I do. Before, 133kw and after, 155.3kw.
David, no warranty as the unit is second hand.
The car has headers and exhaust plus cold air intake.
22.3kw gain which equals ?% gain.

Damien, for some reason there was a huge hole in the graph (dip) at around 92kph. I don't know what gear they were using, I guess it would have been 2nd.
Also, the AFR went below 10 (actually off their chart). So it was way too rich, especially after about 68kph.
But wow, what a great result.

the numbers dont really make sence, the km/h at the end of the scale should be higher, mine does 130km/h in 2nd @ redline, still a tad rich too... but good gains... i might pull my finger out and get mine tuned... im thinking smt-6 though

i got quoted under $900 supplied fitted and tuned for the smt6 vs $1500 for the unichip

David, if you don't know, a batman is a person who looks after an officer in the armed forces and does things like polishing boots.
You are right about extra mileage though, and this is what I told my wife.
Andrew, I paid $440.00 fitted and tuned, however the Unichip was second hand so I paid nowhere near $1500.00 total.

Mike, your car clearly has issues as they don't run like that from factory.

I would say you are a little above the factory HP output after tunning but you certainly were not anywhere near close to factory power output as it was.

Damien, are you saying that a stock V8 would get near 155kw from the factory? If that is so, I have never seen that stated anywhere.
I am agreeing though, that the richness of the AFR is worse than most in stock form.
Can you tell me what I should have checked out to fix the apparent problem

Mike, I had 149.7rwkw at the last dyno day with just a BFI, in fact the shape of the graph indicates that possibly the electrics were letting it down - spark etc, so it could have been better.

I notice you have a TT diff, does the different gearing have an effect on the dyno readout?

Mike I have seen dyno outputs of 100% stock V8's with over 135rwkw on more than one occasion.

The last dyno day I went to there was a 100% stock V8 Glen's that put down 144rwkw and the dyno power output was fairly accurate based on the other cars that were there and comparing to previous dyno runs ect.

Given you have an engine back exhaust I have no doubt that this could have contribuited to about a gain over stock of 15rwkw. I would think it is possible to have close to that figure 155rwkw with a good 1uz, pending dyno, atmospheric conditions without tunning.

There was also a 1uz that on toymods with engine back exhaust that after piggy back ECU dyno tunning produced 174rwkw. I think it was very high 15xrwkw before tunning and was a gain of just over 10% from memory.

I am not saying a perfect from factory V8 cant gain HP from tunning and I'm sure they can but not much more than 10-12% unless there is something else a miss.

At least to this day I haven't seen it.

Mike is your car the later model with the higher 10.5:1 comps.

If so I would have thought you would have closer to 180rwkw with engine back exhaust and tunning.

I am fairly certain that Benny Gammelmark had about 177rwkw from memory with the later model V8 with engine back exhaust and tunning.

Here is what he has posted.

Gain: 50rwkw - yes, that's true. It now produces 177rwkw from 127rwkw as stock.
I have now added a shift kit to make better use of the kw's

Power at various stages:
Rush Headers + exhaust: 146 rwkw (197bhp) (have dyno sheet)
+BFI: around 160rwkw (216 bhp)
+Unichip: 177 rwkw (239 bhp) (have dyno sheet)
All figures are at the wheels. Add about 20% for crank figures.

The Unichip gives the most noticable gain as it alters the torque. Mine now produces more than 400 nm of torque from 50km/h to 150km/h in 3'rd.

I cant find the dyno sheet with the search function but he has posted it and I have seen it.

I always thought dynoing in 2nd gear equated to a loss of about 15-20rwkw compared to 3rd gear ? This could explain the slightly lower figure Damian ?

Daniel, not sure mate.

I have heard about gear ratio changing power output but I have also seen a manual R33 tuned putting down at about 180rwkw only a two rwkw difference between 3rd or 4th gear.

one of my many previous cars.... had a difference of 34awkw when run back to back in 3rd then 4th (5speed auto, 4th 1:1) it was 34awkw more in 4th than 3rd...

dyno dude says something to do with the way the dyno calculates the tq blah blah blah and for best most consistant results always run in a gear as close to 1:1 as possible.... 3rd in an auto soarer, but then you have the problem of the speed limiter... so.. 2nd it may just have to be

then there is all the other dyno differences, the place i use uses a Dynamic test systems dyno, and vs other dyno's ive run the car on seems to be more consistant than the dyno dynamics and reads slightly lower with much less smothing on the graph so you can see more detail in the powercurve

Interesting, yes it does appear that the dyno dynamics dynos might not be the best available...

Mike at a guess given your power output and no comments about missing I would assume it isn't the spark braking down.

Remote diagnostics is difficult but I would be looking at sensors and possibly the ECU.

My otherwise stock '94 V8 with Rush headers and exhaust put down a bit over 200rwhp (151kw)

The biggest variable here is the dyno itself as Andrew said, however if i got only 130ish kw i'd be having a look at a few things
