Looked around to see if anyone knew whether these fitted Soarers - no such luck and theyre not listed in the Bosch catalog I bit the bullet and bought a pair and not only do they fit perfectly but they look so much better than the factory wipers Model number you need is BBA530, you should be able to get them from Supercrap and places like that Theyre not cheap compared to replacement standard wiper blades, around $50 a pair but are supposed to be the ducks nuts It will be raining the rest of the week so guess i will find out...

It beg's the question tho phil, how good can wipers get in the sense how can they do the job better than other's when you factor in cost. I went from using your generic rubber wiper blades at $15 a pair to Silicone one's for $35 a pair cause my mate said they were better and honestly... I can't tell how they are better. They both did their job perfectly.

On both my cars the black paint is fading on the wipers, ive always thought they look bulky and ugly and on one the wipers were crap anyway even with replacement blades The Bosch ones replace the whole wiper part from the arm up not just the blades which is why they cost more plus they last longer (apparently)

I only use the silicone "vivid" wipers from trico now. We are a trico agent and I tried all of their products and felt quite ripped off with some of the wiper refills. Almost all of them (even their premium metal and teflon versions) made noise on the back stroke, and the teflon ones juddered on the screen. The teflon only lasted about 1 month before they left streak marks everywhere. I now uuse the vivids and they are the best viper Ive ever used, I left them on my car for 6 months in the weather while I was rebuilding it, and they still work perfectly, streak free and the most silent wipe ever. This goes against everything trico say though, but try it for your self. |

Last year in Europe we used a washer fluid called 'Anti Pluie' or something like that. Its a water repellent that made the water literally bead off the glass. Does anyone know where i can find that ?

There's also a product for those that don't want to have to think too much about what they buy and it's called 'Brainex'. Then I suppose you could get wipers made from snakeskin. They are called 'windsceen vipers'.

Phil, I have been using these for about a year now and while they are very good at low speed I find they start to lift at anything over 80mph - have you found this?

I'm in the UK so I guess 130kph in your part of the world The old style wipers had a directional spoiler fitted to them, but these do not. I find that fast (and wet) motorway use is a nightmare as they lift badly leaving large unswept areas on the screen. *edit* actually they might not be Bosch, but another make of silicone wiper. Have the Bosch ones got a spoiler?

The factory wipers are silent provided the arms are in good condition. Just out of interest Trico OEM manufacture of wiper arms for a number of car manufactures including toyota recommend replacing the wiper arms every 12 to 18 months and the rubbers every 6 to 12 months. I have always found the arms are stuffed when the rubbers need replacing and I don't ever both buying refils I just replace the arms. The reason the arms wear out is they develop additional movement and the blade is no longer held perpendicular to the glass and drags across the glass. This leaves streaks and can make noise if they are well beyond stuffed IMO there is no real solution other than to replace the arms regularly.

The arms?? Surely you mean the frames. My car's wiper arms are the original 1994 items and still going strong, although I repainted them last year. http://www.tricoproducts.com/common/images/Trico/ezlit/WiperArms.jpg The silicone wiper blades are designed to leave a microscopic coating on the screen to repel water - sometimes I don't even have to switch the wipers on as the rain just runs off (similar effect to RainX)

Found this drawing on the Bosch site - looks like they do have a directional spoiler so mine must be a competitor's http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/images/product/pcWipe/pcWipe_ex.jpg

Yes the top part of them is shaped like a small spoiler. Not all of the factory Soarer ones had the spoiler bit on them either (One of my cars did, the other two didnt) As far as high-speed use goes, i'll probably find out this week...

Sorry Mike, I just noted that they are technically referred to as blades. Yes what is technically referred to as arms normally last 20 plus years but the blades need to be replaced regularly not just the blade refills.

Well I just put a full set of the Aero's on, they were on special at Supercheap for $25 each, so only $75 Kiwi all up (about $60AUD) so I couldn't resist. After driving to Auckland and back 3 times this week (720km all up) in all kinds of weather, I can confirm they are very good, they look a lot nicer than the old ones, and during the brief times I got up to "80mph" while overtaking they did not seem to lift at all.

Still very happy with mine, but then we have had nearly two weeks of nice weather so they haven't had much use. Yes, sometimes it doesn't rain in NZ! Its been bloody nice having a clean car for nearly two weeks too! I love the way they have made the car look a bit more up to date too.

They are called "Aerotwins", but they are actually a single blade. No idea why. I've had twinblades though and as long as you clean them when you wash your car they are no problem. Of course they don't really seem to do any better than a single blade so are pretty pointless.

Dual-blades probably make no difference because each blade applies half the pressure of a single. In fact, given a single blade wipes the same point repeatedly anyway but twice as hard, duals are probably worse. I wonder whether anyone has ever tried to test that?

Only benefit I can imagine with having two blades is that as your wipers ALWAYS finish on a downward stroke and the rubber/plastic tends to deform with age into a slightly bent position facing upwards as a result of this. Once they are deformed they don't work so well on the upwards stroke and you get a horrid bump as they bend when the upward stroke begins. Perhaps having two blades allows for one to deform and the other to remain relatively straight, giving you better performance later in the products life.
