Car on south-bound tram track in Victoria Square
A woman has been detained after her car hit a tram near Victoria Square and ended up on the tram track, causing chaos to peak-hour commuting.
The female driver of the two-door Toyota, which collided with the rear of a Glenelg-bound tram as it crossed Franklin St by the Adelaide General Post Office, has been spoken to by police outside the Hilton Hotel and taken in handcuffs to hospital.
A passenger on the tram, in her 30s, has also been taken to hospital.
Witnesses said the woman, who has been detained under the Mental Health Act, got out of the car after it hit the tram, ending up about 25m along the tram track.
The woman tried to run away but was pursued by a police officer and the tram's driver.
She was detained near the Hilton Hotel, where she initially lay on the ground before getting up and walking around flaying her arms.
Drug squad detectives are searching her car, which has been extensively damaged.
Damage to the tram was relatively minor.
The incident has stopped trams travelling through Victoria Square, with large crowds waiting for alternative public transport.

The rear?! In the pictures, it doesn't look like cars drive on the tram tracks like in melb, so how the •••• did she hit the rear? How mental is this b*tch?! Are there any other reports about this incident and if they did find drugs in the car? Just doesn't make sense. Why would she run and how did she hit it from that angle?
Theres also damage to the rear quarter panel and a pole on the ground. What exactly happened haha!  |

Should be more Commonwhores and BMWs ending up like this. As far as I'm concerned most Soarer drivers I've seen here in Melb don't drive like F#&$knuckles. Poor Soarer, lets face it the b!tch was mentally detained, so she must have been a nut case |

usually find these type of accidents on the tv and the newspaper's in sydney when some tool "mentally ill" driving a nissan or commodore has crashed into a pole street racing again. |
