The World Book Encyclopedia mentions that the people, on this planet, harbor about 2 billion cows, both dairy and beef. In one year, a cow exhales carbon dioxide equivalent to the burning of 380 gallons of gasoline. This is nearly 1 trillion gallons of gasoline by comparison.
Thus, live beef alone contributes 3 TIMES as much carbon dioxide pollution as does ALL of our beloved automobiles combined!

Unfortunately the CO2 from cows is in addition to that exhaled by humans, so the effect is cumulative. They also exhale methane which is a greenhouse gas too.
Our problems with "cows" are more direct here- they have free run of the roads (as well as the garden, if you can't keep them out) and one is killed every few months- makes a mess of the car that kills it Only a couple of months ago a Mitsubishi Canter was written off.

I almost hit 3 cows one night driving a ute fire appliance, If I remember correctly they carried 600 liters of water in a tank on the back and when I started braking and slowly swerving the water started swaying in the back which unsettled the car a bit, that was very scary - I dont know why all 3 cows were just sitting in the one lane and I dont really care I was just so happy I didnt him them, have hit a few roo's and I know I definitely dont want to hit a cow - would be particularly embarrasing, especially in a fire truck!!
