Does the Soarer come with an antenna built into the glass or does it have one of the extending wands? I have seen cars that look like there is no antenna and some with an automatic extend wand on the rear fender. |

external was only on the US spec SC's.
Jap models were on the glass |

Does anyone else find that the antenna on the glass is just not up to scratch compared to an external? I nearly lose all reception as soon as I drive past a tall tree, building, sugar ant... Oh well, guess that's why they invented empyfreez! |

Excellent here. I am using Vlad's conversion rather than expanders. I believe it exploits both antennae. |

Expanders are useless. It is those that affect your reception not the antennae. A Vlad converted radio has reception at least as good as any other car. Metallic tint on the window will affect reception too.
If you don't have EMV then you can't do Vlad's mod but you CAN get a US spec Lexus head unit with correct FM band (bur wrong AM). |

I took the4 expander off our Soarer, as Mark says, they are useless. Luckily local radio here is 89.9MHz. Reception's good without the expander.
The Wizard has aftermarket 2DIN stereo with only one aerial connected- they are both in the rear quarter windows. I lose reception every time I go into a hollow. |

Some guy in Victoria developed a technique of cutting a line in the metallic foil tint that caused it to not mess with the reception. If I can find any more info, I will post it up. |

i just used a non metallic tint on the back glass.....it's what they do with the BA Falcons too... |

That is exactly right, Most Tint guys with any kind of a clue will know you can't use a metallic rear tint when the car in question has a rear glassed antenna.
I got metallic on the sides, but non metallic on the back, and it works beautifully.  Looks hot as hell too. |

Dont know... was done at AM Glass tinting in Geelong.. 20% tint on rear... |

Might do some research then. Last I checked, it seemed the non-metallic ones pretty much all faded after a while. Then I see those horrible purple tints that have bubbled and it puts me right off. |

yeah..he said it wont last as long as the metallic, but will last for quite some years is a slightly different colour too looking at it from the inside, but from outside you would never pick it |
