Hmmmm, I don't know about the quality of these radios, could be hell crap but if u want something very cheap then these could be worth checking out:

http://www.strathfield.com.au/ViewProduc t.asp?ProdID=1073
-29 for a single one

http://www.strathfield.com.au/ViewProduc t.asp?ProdID=1498
-or $38 for a double pack

There's other ones there too anywhere between 49 and 100 bux which could be better then these I suppose.

Freeman, the figures I quoted are less than what Uniden does, those are figures are what my mate and I came up with as we tried them out on a main road and in the forrest by his place. You guys seem to have had some bad luck, the only Uniden item I have had an issue with was my cordless phone, but my sister did run over it (had it out on driveway while working on car).

Stephen, yeah they are great for paintball, makes life much easier when your team of 15 (we run a rouge, almost mercinary like team) comes up against 80! Then again, having ex special forces guys on your team helps, at least the opposition has a 'colourfull' day!!!

I actually just installed an ex commercial UHF radio in my soarer about 2 weeks ago. Took the better part of the entire afternoon but its worth it. Its an old Phillips PRM8030 remote head unit which is programmable and can output up to 25 watts. It is also programmed to receive police radio frequencies. Being remote head it allowed me to put the main unit and all the wiring etc in the boot and just have the headunit and mic mounted vertically to where the cupholder should be.
Ill try and upload some pictures.

Although the antenna looks crap from this angle it doesnt look too bad. I was worried it would make my car look strange lol.

Another spot for that type of Mount is on the Middle Edge of the Boot where it is Parallel to the Rear Window

( Looks HORN but just be careful opening the Boot !!! )

that model looks very familiar, many of our vans that had UHF radios was that one, we just had a normal mouthpiece though, no buttons.

Nowdays we dont even have a headunit, its just a mouthpiece and all the buttons and lights are on that

in regards to this, i work at a telecommunications dealership and we sell uniden handheld UHF's so i could get them for a resonable price.
from what ive tested and from feed back they do go a fair distance though that wouldnt be needed in a cruise. if your interested if them email me and ill get some more details

Stephen, I bought a pair of motorola hand held cb's for $98 at Harvey Norman, they come with a set of rechargeable batteries (like the ones in your mobile phone) and also a desktop charger. They also have a 3km range and worked really good and clear on the last cruise we went to. They are probly your best choice because u also wont have to spend any more money on batteries or anything.
