I noticed in the Adelaide Advertiser last week, that a company in Mt Barker( Adelaide Hills) is building a sports car based on an MGB, with a Lexus V8 in it. They are quoting 260KW. It doesnt appear to be blown, so not sure if they are for real, or if confused with Horse power. Is it possible to get those sort of figures with after market computers etc?

| Rotating my eyeballs 90 degrees anti-clockwise, I discerned that the car has a four speed automatic transmission.
It appears also to have a 1990 MGB body which seems odd. That sort of flywheel power from the V8 seems achievable enough without forced induction if you change input, output, ECU and possibly cams but they may indeed have slipped a KW after the known 260 (HP) |

A lot of the MG RV8's went to Japan as well - possibly a cheap source of donor cars as the shipping would be cheaper than the UK.

Many of the Jap cars are LHD which is a pain. I can tell you from personal experience that RHD conversion of MGs is an absolute bitch. I have one living next door to me and 6 years on there is still work being done on the RHD conversion.

I helped a mate do a RH conversion on an MGB. Would have to be the easiest conversion ever. Simple as s hitting in bed, and kicking it out with your foot.

I am surprised that they are using the MGB body. There are many nice convertibles out there, that handle better. I found the 1800 MGB very tail happy and it reached it's handling limits very quickly, I can't imagine what it would be like with the V8. In my early days I had at least one of most of the MG variants from the 1959 models up. They were common in Singapore, where I grew up and at that time cheap. I use to buy and fix or clean them up, then sell them and move on. My fav was an Austin Healy Sprite, that is now in Texas. I guess the MGB is the easiest to modernize as it already had wind up windows etc.

Ian, try doing one to a six cylinder coupe....no fun at all unless you have VERY small hands and/or the dash isn't welded in place (cheap bastards!!) Alfred, believe me a V8 in an MG makes for a lot of excitement if you keep the boot into it! A Toyota V8 would make it an instant death-trap I reckon unless there are some serious suspension and brake mods to go with it.

It uses WRX Subi rear end, and I think Soarer suspension?? Not sure on that though.

Wonder what a Super 7 with a V8 would be like!!!!! That is still my all time fav. Had a series 2 with the official "To Fast to Race" sticker on it! Like an idiot, I sold it together with a Honda SS800 both of which would be worth big money now.

A lot of RV8s have come back from Japan to the UK. A dealer near me used to import them alongside Soarers, amongst other cars. He changed to RV8s only, but according to his website (http://www.hsimports.com) the supply of decent cars has all but dried up in Japan.

Unless the turbo was fitted by a workshop I'd say he was confused.

And $27k is a good price for a '97 V8, let alone a turbo one!!! At $27k a turbo '97 V8 would HAVE to be a real dog or the bargain of the Century.
