Hi guys, My friend recently purchased a damaged 31 with a 2JZ-GE as expected, in auto (also as expected). Ive advised him that its not exactly going to be a straight forward swap. He bought the car for very cheap on the grounds that the swap would be feasible.
We thought about it and concluded that it should'nt be such a big deal once the engines in if we use the respective engines management, use custom throttle/cruise cables and swap a few things over. The donor 1j/2j would need to come from a soarer front cut, and the fuel pump and fp. ecu would be changed over. Engine mounts would be jza80 items as one is damaged.
Is there anything that he should be made aware of specifically? And what are your thoughts.
Cheers, Cihan.
ps. i've used search, i couldn't find anything usefull. Surely this question would have been asked before though.

Oh, and he already has a 1JZ with a rooted bottom end (tick tock tick tock) coupled to a good transmission that came as part of the deal.
He suggested a 1.5JZ, but i said he's better off buying a 2JZ and doing a complete swap. At this moment in time, he has 2 x 2JZ-GE's, both in working condition with auto boxes attached and a 1JZ with auto box attached. The 1JZ has turbo's, but the block is suspected to be damaged.
Im wondering what he can re-use from the jzz31 as everything in the engine bay is intact and the car is drivable.

hi guys, what he meant was i want to put in a 2jz-gte . It should be a straight forward swap but as cizza said little things like throttle cables, any electrical etc.

get your hands on a 1jzgte loom, and you will be able to run a 2JZGTE with out any modifications to the wiring (although tacho signal will have to be adapted as the 2JZGE has a distibuter) Unfortunatly this method of wring means you lose the sequential operation of the 2JZGTE turbo chargers. You can wire in the 2JZGTE loom into the soarer, it will cost about $1000 though

Cheers Ben. Wiring in the loom sounds expensive, again - something to consider when doing these things.
Probably the cheapest option is a straight 1JZ-GTE swap.
And sorry about the completely scattered initial post, i read over it and its hard to keep track of what i meant. I meant 2JZ twin turbo, as daniel pointed out.

Ben the blocks aren't the same, it needs low comp pistons and associated hardware, oil pump mods and practically a rebuild. Theres your labour money right there.
Im not sure what Daniels planning on doing, but a 1JZ conversion is the cheapest and most effective in the long term.

After some long thinking i do love the nature of the 1jz and it definitely works with my budget. I can still see issues with this conversion. What am I to expect?
