Have a good one guys .

I'm having Chrisy on me own. Karen headed up to Auckland yesterday to have Christmas with the kids at Glenbrook Beach.

Me and the cats are gonna have our own little party, and I MAY break with my non-drinking and have a coupla quiet bourby's to celebrate the season .

If you're on the road, watch out for the seasonal idiots, and keep the shiny side up.

It's personally been a great year, and I hope 2011 will bring more of the same.

To ALL of our Soarer clan.......A VERY merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

Party on Dudes!

Good skills Matthew.............Mind you, I could think of a lot worse cars to take the whole family away in.............AND, you know you're safe when encapsulated by SOARER!

Indeed, a good car to get away in over the weekend, at least they haven't got too much power, or it would be much to easy to get in trouble, considering how tight the NZ police have become with speed tollerance over the holiday period.

It's a real shame speed is the only thing they seem to target that the culprit for crashes, when the majority of the time it's underskilled/lazy/idiotic/underexperienced drivers crossing the center line, tail gating etc or driving unsafe/overloaded cars.

The way in which licences are issued should be completely overhauled, but I guess that would be too much of an expense and the government would rather just ticket people since its more profitable that way.

...I digress! :-)

I was just thinking while cooking dinner sipping away at a nice Merlot, how it's going to be new years and that means a new year...... 2011! certainly a wake up call to how I should have finished making the conversion kit for my 1UZ into the BMW, the last 3 months have just slipped away to my frustration. Looks like January is going to be where the real hard yards are put in to finish the car before February.

The new Forester is coming shortly, so we'll have a big family car to replace the crappy old (3 years younger than my Soarer, but still worn out) Primera. Then my Soarer can take a well earned rest and I can do the 200,000k service on her.

a little late but something for everyone !

T'was the night before Christmas and in the garage, Not a trace of a Healy... nor even a Porsche.

The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit, So I figured I'd mess with my Soarer a bit.

I pulled the release and lifted the hood, When a deep voice behind me said - - ''Looks d--n good!''

As you can imagine, I turned mighty quick, And there by the workbench, stood 'Ol Saint Nick!

He stood there a bit, not sure what to say, Then with a smile ''I'll trade ya my sleigh?''

I said ''No way, Santa'' and started to grin, ''But if you got the time, let's go for a spin!''

His round little mouth, tied up like a bow, Turned into a smile as he said ''Let's go!!''

So not to wake neighbours, as they all sleep, We pushed the trusty toyota, out onto the street,

While synching our belts, as we coast down the hill, I grabbed second gear as I let the clutch spill!

The sound that erupted took him by surprise, But he liked it a lot - - by the look in his eyes.

With Goodyears a screamin' and dual pipes aglow, We headed on out, where the speed demons go!

Santa's grin widened, getting close to his ears, With every up shift, as I went through the gears.

Then Santa yelled ''I feel so alive!''

So I backed off the gas, and said - - ''you wanna drive?''

Ol Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys, When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees!

The V8 exploded with dual exhaust sound, As Santa dumped the clutch, the tires shook the ground!

Power shift into second, and then into third!

I sat there just watching, at a loss for a word.

Santa's white knuckles, gripped the wheel with fear, The look in his eyes, said ''to hell with reindeer!''

I heard him exclaim, as we blasted from sight, ''Merry Christmas to all... and to all a good night!''

Just look at today's paper, 3 deaths this holiday season and all young drivers killed......

I have my class 2 licence and even still it was very easy to get that. I also must add that I too now look back to when I started driving and how inexperienced I was and think, to hell with going on the road when there is some one like that out there driving around. As Mr Beck will know, I am a security guard and I do 12 hour shifts of driving around, as I have been on the road now for over a year and with about 150,000kms that I have clocked up at work, I have seen so many times where I could have been in a major accident but managed to avoid it or where a major accident could have happened with some one else but managed to stop things from happening.

Any way hope every one had a good christmas and has a good new year, I will be off to the Hampton Downs skid pad for some wet weather training on the 7th so am certainly looking forward to more track time in the new year with the gold beast.

Heh, thats gold Daniel!

Yes the JZZ31 has won both the longest serving and most reliable car award so far - worst thing thats happened was the harmonic balancer failure, and that was avoidable so I can't blame the car!

Even with the new job I can't really see it being replaced any time soon as the family car is the most important thing at the moment.

We'll be getting a 2005ish Forester as that seems to be a car the Missus and myself can both agree on. Not sure if it'll be the 2.5 or the 2 litre turbo at this stage - will have to see what they are both like. Wary of the Boxer engine and complex drive train, but I figure if we get a low K's model thats been well looked after it should be OK.

New job you say... care to share?

Hmmm personally I'd avoid a Subaru, the non turbo model would be a bit awful to drive without that turbo kick, obviously it's just going to be a family car, but most family cars are 200kw+ now days, you need that on the open road when overtaking when the police aren't watching.

Perhaps one of these 3L Altezza wagons could be better
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/ALTEZZA/auction-342682534.htm

Or even a new Aristo / GS300 they are safer with 5 stars in the last couple of years of production, could even go for the turbo one http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/Aristo/auction-321271319.htm

Depends what your budget is though I guess.

Unfortunately the Altezza Gita wagon just isn't big enough, and we have to have a hatch, so the GS300 is out too.

Yes, I've been offered a much higher paying job so unless my current work can stump up with some good cash, I'm off.

My wife has changed her mind now and is interested in a Toyota Voltz (dumb name, nice car) - we are going to take one for a test drive next weekend. They come in two engines, the 1ZZ-FE and the 2ZZ-GE. The 2ZZ-GE is the one to have of course as it has the variable valve lift that really makes it push some good power for such a tiny engine. Its around 130KW which should be fine in a 1300KG vehicle. Will let you know what its like when I've driven it.
