Did a thermostat and gasket change this morning and complete flush or of radiator with flushing agent. Full of green gunk and now put proper stuff in, the red one mixed with 50% water from our water distiller (no minerals, pure water). Thought had better do it as I did't know how long ago it had been done. Instead of reading one block down from centre on the temp gauge, now reads dead centre so it it actually running a bit hotter, thought it would run cooler.??? Made up a little flushing hose with a rubber bung drilled out to take hose and which was stuffed in end of radiator hose, back flush as well, worked well.

Rod, there might have been a bit of junk stopping the thermostat from closing properly.

Thermostat was probably sticking. There will be marks on the old one if it was.

Okay I take it that reading dead centre, took it ona bit of a trip tonight and still reading dead centre, is okay. Had checked water level etc and was spot on so obviously no air in the radiator after I changed water. Mark will scan my colour change diagram and send it to you via E mail tomorrow night and you can see what I thought looks good to me anyway. Cheers Rod.

Don emailed a scan diagram to Mark re the colours wanted on EMV screen but havent heard back yet. Have your trucks got a daily run up this way. Screen as I have said comes out Tues, think there has to be a couple of connections left connected if I want to drive the car which I have to. Is that right? Will get some overpriced Aussie dollars and send down with screen when you arrange to pick it up. Will ring after Tues.

Okey dokey!. Our trucks DO run daily Mon to Fri past your door, so uplifting the EMV won't be a hassle. Don't know about the connections thing, as mine ran fine without the whole head unit in. But mine ain't an EMV, so Mark would be the one to advise on that

Colour change shouldn't be too much of a problem, Rod. I may not get it done in time for Don to take it back with him but post to NZ is cheap. I will try to have some spares done ready to swap so it can go back with Don. Leave the EMV wiring harness in the car so you can plug the hazzard switch in or you'll have no indicators. A/C will still work in Auto mode but taking the switches off the top of the EMV (2 screws) and reconnecting them will give you more control over A/C (I have plenty of spares so can do one with LEDs for you, just post your old one back sometime after you get it all back in).

Talking about the row of switches for the A/C, demisters etc on top of the EMV. I have plenty of them spare so you can leave yours in the car for some more control over the aircon. I can do the colour change on a spare and send it back with the EMV, then you post back the old switches.

Right, got it, thanks, can you give me approximate cost of colour change, repair of capacitors and checking and repair of touch screen so I can send some overpriced Aussie dollars over with Don.

Probably in the $300 to $400 region all up depending on the condition of the touch screen and backlight inverters in the EMV. That's 'worst case' pricing, with a bit of luck it will be cheaper.

Mark. Screen out and ready for Don to take wrapped up in two rolls of bubble tape. Has b en behaving spot on for past two weeks. Just a slight problem when I drove the car home, air con worked okay and so did indicators but when I stopped in garage couldnt turn off the key fully and couldnt get damn thing out. Gear shift in park okay but odometer light on dash and clock still illuminated and key wouldnt turn far enough back to turn these off but when I took off battery lead key came out so left it at that as I wont need to use it til it's ready to go back in. Also left top row of switches for air con in so hopefully you are able to just swap it over when it comes with new colours. Anyone any clues as to why key wont come out. Would the gear shift not have been replaced properly or has the fact half wiring disconected have anythinhg to do with it. ??????

Oak Don, wont be there til lunch time or so as its my shopping day with my worker will give it to driver. Put money in envelope underneath unit in the bag. Plenty of room to put other bits and pieces around it if you want to use that carry bag, usually not toio fussy on cabin luggage as long as it will fit above in locker. Cheers

ps: If I get REALLY bored, me n' Karen might come up for a blatt on Sunday, and uplift it then. |

Big icecreams. If you do, could probably get my worker in an hour or two and go home for cuppa. Taken headlights out while waiting for EMV because one was condensing, so cleaned it up and put two or three layers of Superglue over where its stuck together, as per fix from Planet Soarer, instead of melting it apart, and after couple of days ran hose over the top for a bit. No condensation, so here's hoping. When I washed it down, seemed to condense up quick. so have been putting plastic bag over one corner when washing, and no condensation so looks like it's getting in from top left on passengers side where condensation was. Decided to go for light upgrade with Narva Artic blue lights while it was out. So that's done, and that one back in. Other one wasn't condensing, but when I pulled it out, found rubber boot cover missing off Lo-beam light so anyone know where to get one?. Hope you dont have to buy whole headlight!. Also did the flushing trick by sloshing meths about inside, and it came up like new. Left it on the ground to dry, and when I picked it up saw a big spider crawling about inside the glass. "buggar". No way to get it out but got itself out after a day. At least I hope it has,.........it's vanished. When I pulled the drivers one out which wasnt condensing, I saw the Low-beam boot missing. So where do I get another one, without I hope getting the whole light.
