I will probably buy one. I have more cars than people here at the moment (23yo "child" overseas) and even borrowing a neighbour's garage does not quite get everything under cover.

During our last holidays I left both cars (Soarer & Wizard) under covers, both Aungers. When we came back the Wizard was covered in a "bloom" which luckily polished off easily. Rereading the containers it said that the covers should be left on for only 36 hours ( I left them on a month!). That left me wondering what the hell good they are if they're only good for 36 hrs?

I have a non-waterproof cover which works fine for me (i'll have to dig out the packet for specifics). It's fairly soft, so no scratching, has elastic on both ends, and clips which go under the car to hold it on in the winds.
It was about $25 for the large size from memory. There was also a waterproof cover available for around $50, which had a breather up the top to stop any thing breeding underneath.

I also have a non-waterproof one that feels like its made of parachute silk or something similar.

Its never scratched the car, but the elastic has come unhooked in high winds (mind you someone could have lifted it to have a peek).

The one drawback I found is, its bloody heavy and hard to handle when its wet!

LOL @ Jeff.......

Anyhow, I use an Autotechnica cover .
Its fleecy on the inside and pretty much 100% waterproof. The cats like getting their claws into it, so not as waterproof now.
It has elastic around the bottom of it so it fits pretty snug. About $140 from memory.

I bought one of them in the UK for my beemer. They are really good.

The one I bought was silver on the outside - to reflect light/heat and fleecy on the inside like Grant said.

I think I paid around 40 quid for it 15 years ago.

They're also very good against ice and snow. No scraping in the mornings.

The Autotechnica's are a wonderful cover, they dont sweat and providing you dont put it on a dirty car, it wont scratch. I got one without the door opening (dont like Zips near my paintwork thanks very much!). XL fits the soarer like a glove.

The Wizard's a JDM Isuzu Frontera (aka Holden, Vauxhall, Opel, Isuzu Rodeo in US) with 3.0 turbodiesel, only available in Japan. Pretty quick for a diesel.

It has an aftermarket (or dealer fitted) "aero" kit with 6 Cibies at the front. Plick to keep clean on the dirt road to the "office". I rarely take the Soarer to work for that reason (plus the fact it's actually my wife's car)

Jeff, how much did the Autotechnica cover cost you?

Is it easy to put on by yourself?

To be honest Alan, I dont remember how much it cost, was around the $100 mark though (Autobarn). Its a piece of cake to put on by yourself. It has 'rear' written on the back (duh!) and from whichever end you start at you just put the elastisized bit under the bar/lip then pull the rest over. It has 2 straps that can be connected beneath the car if you can be bothered doing them up. Ive only used them once, while we were experiencing some gale force winds, just to be sure it didnt take off like a kite.

Large Autotechnicas are around the $150 mark at Repco at the moment. Large is up to 4.91m (the Soarer is 4.86m) and XL up to 5.1m. There was an interesting one at Autopro, a Tyvek (DuPont) fabric which is unlined but very light, and washable, but supposed to be very strong. It could be the "parachute silk" one which Robert mentioned. About $130 as I recall.
