Gee how do i make this very short??? OK back when i was 11 years old i had my first car 64 ford Anglia. and right up until 6 years ago i have always owned fords, just a couple of holdens in there and two mazdas. i first saw my brother in-laws soarer i would have been the first dumped TT with 20" wheels on it hehehehe and a tow bar.HAHAHAHA then my son come to live with me and we got looking at Jap imports yer we did the lot one week end. nissan toyota subaru any thing that was turboed. then when i got my head out of the clouds (about a month later) i went to Melbourne one saturday with 8 cars to look at (all soarers). I really clocked up some miles that day all up i think i covered around 350 kms. Funny thing was i fell in love with the first one i saw . BUT told the guy i will make my mind up after seeing all of them and would let him know on the monday. After seeing the lot and the last one was up at broardmeadows. this guy imported the cars and was selling a mates car. i told him the same thing I will contact him monday. so heading around the ring road and on my way back to geelong i keep on thinking about the first one i saw. when i got the car home i looked under the bonnet walked in side and said to Marianne . WHAT THE HAVE I DONE.. So you guys can thank my son for what i am doing now. and also Steve malkin for introducing me to ALSC That car is now owned by Juzza and i have a very soft spot for her I will always own a soarer from now on i love them that much "O" and i did let the other guys know that there car didn't come up to scratch as well

Ford Anglia hey Lew. lol. You have progressed in the right direction mate, thats for sure!!
As for how I ended up with a Soarer, Im still a little confused myself.
Being a car guy I was aware of Soarers, their engine options etc. but had never really even thought about buying one. To be honest if somebody had asked me what import I would buy I wouldve said either an R32 GTR or a Supra (I still want a Supra, someday Ill grab one).
I was actually out with my missus looking at motor bikes when a dumped to the weeds Supra caught my eye in a car yard, pulled up to have a squiz (it was an absolute bucket) and behind it was a very clean jacked-up-like-a-4-wheel-drive white Soarer. My missus was immediately drooling over it and somehow I left that car yard with a big hole in my bank balance and no motor bike.
That was nearly 4 years ago, I still have her, Im still having fun with her.
In that time the top tank on the radiator crapped itself and the power steering pump died, all within its warranty period. The fact that the motor hasnt absolutely split the kipper is a testament to the build quality of these vehicles because although Ive only put 30,000 K's on the clock since Ive had it not too many of them have been slow.

My first car was a Mazda MX6, was a great car to learn to drive in. And a turning circle to die for!
I quickly got sick of FWD though, so my next car had to be RWD. After a lot of hunting, I came across a Soarer. Loved the look, the big round arse and downward slopping bonnet.
But insurance was hell, so I went looking again.
I hunted and hunted for something that looked similar. Eventually I ended up with a Nissan Silvia S14. Big lovely round arse and slopped bonnet. It was a blast to drive, after a bit of modification it turned into one hell of corner machine. But ultimately it wasn't comfortable to drive around in. It's ride was harsh, any softer just made it's rear end wobble and step out to much.
Finally I reached the point where I could insure the Soarer, sold the Silvia and here I am.
Like all of you people here, I've been into cars all my life. My whole family used to be (some still are) Ford fans etc, my first and second car was a Ford... anyway, the first time I've seen a soarer was back in 1997 or 1998 (can't recall now). I was helping my dad (he's a painter/house renovator etc.) during my spare time while I was a high school, and the real estate agent drove up to check how it's going. I looked outside and whoa!! What the hell is that?? Walked outside, it was a green 31, with EMV, leather, sunroof etc. Let's just say I was very impressed with what it had and how good it looked. Definately looked all class. I've seen that car around a few times when I was with my dad, I haven't really spoken to the guy about it much, all I knew is that it is some sort of rare and hard to get import and it cost him sh|tloads!!
Second Soarer I've seen was end of 1999 when I was finishing year 12. Wine red colour. Looked beautiful, some chick's dad bought it. Started to look more into imports in those days. Started uni in 2000, there was plenty of international students there, pretty much all of them had Supras, FTOs, Skylines etc. all got me interested more and more. Started reading up magazines, browsing the net etc.
I so much fell in love with the way the car looked, and everything about it, I became addicted to collecting all sorts of soarer pics, info and websites from all over the net. I've discovered the old ALSC, planet soarer and all those websited many years ago, and read up heaps and heaps about them. By that time also, one of my cousins bought a Supra too, definately got the turbo bug since then. Took me a while to buy one, mainly due to sorting out my finances etc, I've had mine since July last year and still love soarers as much as I did back in 97

My first car was an old Hillman coupe soft top. Paid 13 quid for it, didn't even have a licence. Had it for 2 weeks before the head got warped. The passenger opened the door, the seat tipped over and she fell out. I think I got 4 quid scrap for it. The next car was a mini van. It lasted a bit longer, was easy to work on but was a bit wonky due to duff hydro-elastic suspension. Still managed to get a speeding ticket on the A1. Got married and bought a Ford Anglia. It went ok but had a slipping clutch so going up hills was a mission. It develope the brown cancer so when the neighbour wanted rid of his Anglia we bought that. Kids came along so bought an Austin 1100 until rust eventually saw that off. Then we got a Simca which was lovely and comfy as most French cars were but it rusted like no other. I went to my first auction and bought an Austin Princess. It had more cabin room than most other large cars plus you could get lost inside the engine bay. But it was an auto and we had nothing but trouble with that Borg Warner. Eventually flicked it on to a guy with a gamy leg who needed an auto. Then we emigrated to NZ. Our first car here was a 1600 Subaru then a friends 1600 Telstar then a Honda Concerto and now my Soarer plus the wife has an Accord. So now I'm happy and so is the wife except when I need to spend 1000's to fix the Soarer, but hey it's nearly 16 yrs old what do you expect.

Personally, i got a Soarer because a mate did >.>
I never used to be in to cars. I never had the intention on doing up a car or spending money on one...
...then one fateful 2005 April 1st, a mate picked up his new white TT Soarer and we chuffed off to the Motor Show. I was hooked! From that day onwards i had to have one. HAD TO HAVE ONE!
Ended up with the one i have now. No second thoughts! =D

Ha - well my first car was an Austin 1800!!! Painted it black, tinted the windows, put on a straight through bullet muffler... I guess something was telling me way back then that I'd have a problem with "normal" looking cars later on!!
But I must admit I "progressed" to a rather sensible Ford Laser, then a Vauxhall Chevette (NZ) followed by a '72 Celica, '83 Celica, 92 Prelude and then that was it - I was in the market for MORE POWER!! Bloody 4 pots!!!
I remember the day clearly. Driving down to the lights at city west. I hear this throaty burble coming from my rear (and no it wasn't from my ass!).
A dumped Dark Green V8 with shiny chromies purrs past me sporting Lexus badges inc - SC400. That was all the introduction I needed...
I was straight on the net researching like there was aliens in my fingertips wanting to get out! I must admit that I had been tempted to stray to a BMW 850i (the old v12 coupe) but I couldn't get over the full package of a Soarer for the price. The Beamer was asking $69k and the Soarer $22k - it was a no brainer...
Went straight out and like most even though I'd done my homework I was still pretty green and a green TT was the first one that I came up against (not literally although almost)...
Problem was she needed beer googles to look good. Blinky dash, strange noises and lack of guts....I thought this can't be right. Got into a white TT at another yard. Don't like white, or beige interior but boy did she move. It probably was the comparison against the other one but this seemed twice the performance...
I made a verbal commitment that I'd be back...in my mind I seemed to have forgotten that I don't like white or beige interiors!...Hell I'd only looked at two of them!! Blinded by love I guess...lol...
•••• this is getting long - better wrap it up....In between phone calls i see another for sale at Distinctive Car Imports. Well let me tell you - once I saw this pristine Dark Blue GT-TL with ALL the fruit (for a TT) at only a couple of k's more than the white one I basically dropped my pants there and then and asked where to sign....!!
It was supposed to be just a great cruiser to work. Damn neighbor took me to AutoSalon...BIG mistake....$70k later, a new business startup, WA ALSC Chapter president (passed the torch) and a wife that now looks at me like "who the hell did I marry" and that basically brings me up to today!!....(oh, I think I've got 2 or 3 kids too)...
Don't know what it is about these cars but I can't see myself in anything else... Oh what a feeling :o)

When it comes to cars, I really don't have a clue. I only recently decided to buy a car, and it's my first. I got my car on the 31st of June this year.
I started looking for cars around April, and couldn't decide what I wanted. My friend remembered that I'd always stare at soarers whenever I saw one, and to be honest I really really liked the soarer since as long as i can remember. I was so envious of all Soarer drivers, drool would accumulate around my mouth every time I saw one.
Anyway my friend suggested I get a Soarer and I thought he was absolutely out of his mind, how could I afford a car so oh-my-freakin-god-classy! Please keep in mind that I had no clue about cars at that stage (still really don't haha) And I was always under the impression that this car would've costed at least 50 grand, you can't believe how happy I was when I heard how much you can get them for.
I love my car, I've had a few minor issues with it, but I really love my choice. It's such a sexy car, it's faster then anything i've ever driven, such comfort and I just love rolling in it.
One of my favourite things is driving past shops with lots of glass so you can catch your own reflection hahaha, can't get enough of it.

Well back in 2005 i started to look at "first car i would ever own" after what now seems like years i found a soarer, i did as much research as i could on the car which brought me to this wonderful website, after driving a few of them i found the soarer for me, it's previous owner was a driving instructor for AMG mercedes Australia so i figured he knew how to drive.
So when i went to drive his car he taught me how to take corners hard and really exploit the car, after driving it i said i would buy it (knowing full well i did not have the money) I am very proud to have the Toyota Soarer Twin Turbo as my first car. And i must say that this forum has really played a big part in me buying a soarer, all of the members who answered my questions helped me so much, i was thinking of getting a Commodore because i love Holden, but now i have a Toyota i could not be more happy.
I might speak for all but they really are a great car to own and drive.

My camry died. I wanted an aristo but the misses didnt like the 4door grandpa appearing car but she loved the shape of the soarer. I only had 5k at that time, so my girl friend put up the rest
Lucky me hey. Also lent me a further 2k for single turbo hehehe.

Always wanted one through highschool after getting over the slieghty and r33 shape and thought if I get into University of WA I will save up for one and get it. Ended up getting one off a surgeon who my mum worked with upon getting into uni and working HARD. Yay...was very happy

I've had a jap import r31 skyline with the RB30E manual, was heaps of fun to drive, then needed more power so went to one of the TT Vr4's which was fast but not too pretty and extremely unreliable, i then got a R32 skyline coupe cruiser which i loved the look of but not the terribly gutless RB20, then decided i'd done my dash of rough teenage thrashers and wanted something a girl would actually want to get into and same for me. Then one day heading back from Auckland on the motorway a white UZZ31 roared past me and i was hooked on it. Shape, sound, leather interior.. had to have one. Plan to keep mine for a long time!

2 great cars for less than the price of a small Asian heap.

I think you will be very happy with the UZZ31, it looks great and is a pleasure to drive.
I had always liked Soarers after seeing one on the Internet in the late 90's, then after owning a bunch of European Cars I came across an immaculate TT in a car yard in around 2002 and although not even looking at buying a car at the time I took it for a test drive and bought it on the spot. Kept it for a couple of years but car was damaged after being side swiped by a truck.
Since then I have owned a total of 8 Soarers plus 2 other that I stripped for parts. Having owned a few cars worth 5 times the price of a Soarer, there still is not much that comes close in quality and performance.
Saw my first Soarer (actually an SC) while I was in the USA around 1995. Have been in love with the shape since then.
Purchased my first one in 2002, a 93 twin turbo in silver with nearly every option (bar traction control and LSD). Swapped out some stuff out of it (turbos, suspension etc)... sold it in 2005 (IIRC).
Purchased my second one straight after, and I still currently own it (97 VVTi black/black). Slowly pulling it apart to replace whatever is broken and planning to keep this one for a loooooooong time. Looking to make this one my ultimate Soarer.
Recently purchased another one for my partner (91 V8 Limited). This is currently our daily driver and I'm slowly rebuilding it so my girl has something nice to drive.
I think that's enough Soarers for me though, with a baby on the way I'm not allowed to buy another one... station wagon time here I come

I actually bought your old silver one last year, was quite run down by that stage but cleaned it up and is now owned by a guy up the coast and has had had quite a few more mods done and is going well
