| After Mike Beck reckoned it was about time I changed me profile pic to reflect the TT rim instalation, I washed the old sausage today and took some fresh pics. Still looks much the same as when I bought it 2 & bit years ago, but now has a Griffon (instead of the L badge on the front) and I'm gonna complete the de-lexusorising of the arse end soon.

| Hang on, so you went and paid more for the L badges for the wheels than you did for the wheels themselves, and now you are de-Lexing the car? |

| Superb Don, Now we can finally see your soarer... I must say it looks very MINT, very straight panels and paint around. Interior woodgrain is looking very tidy and doesnt appear your dash vinyl has faded to the greenish grey! The Teal is one of the top colours for the soarer in my opinion, you don't see many in that colour at all! The TT wheels look perfect on yours, love the look of them - especially on the second to last pic, looks outstanding on that angle I agree also, I think you should de-Lexus the car, the rear badges just don't look right... are they genuine ones? Speaking of Lexus badges - as of lately Ive been think about whether or not I should do Lexus badging.... The pros for it are that it looks interesting & makes it a bit more 'classy' however for the cons, they are expensive, require holes filled/new ones drilled etc.... Most importantly as Mr Nitschke regularly notes is how ours are Toyotas NOT Lexus'! Which is 100% true so now an then I keep thinking just to keep it Toyota and get Genuine Toyota Soarer key blanks & a quality griffin... |

Hang on a tic! I really don't have a view one way or the other, as long as people understand what their car actually is, and also that people with strong views don't get on their soapbox about it. I have no brand badges on my car, I like the Brazillian look. |

| There is one production line for both the Japanese premium Toyotas and the overseas (and now Japanese) Lexus models and they slap on an appropriate badge at the end. Actually, with great attention to detail, they also make sure little bits like windows and suchlike also carry appropriate labels even though they are identical parts. People get so hung up on what the car was labelled in a given market and whether a particular option was offered here or there. Get over it, or, as I have said before, choose your form of snobbery, siding blindly with the patricians or the plebeians. My advice these days is to de-badge the car entirely, as Peter says, and avoid the stress. Remarkably enough, you will still be driving the same car. Gosh. |

Well thats the main thing - Personally I feel it would just be authentic to stay with the actual car brand... I like lexus badges on the soarers looks great - good on others chaps for getting em on! As the Don says "...variety IS the spice of life..." And its quite true!

| It amuses me no end that I sold my wife on the proposition that she should consent to buying the somewhat expensive Lexus IS300 on the grounds that it was a Toyota (Altezza) and therefore should be at least as reliable as the company Camry I drove in the early 90s. A couple of years later, I bought the Toyota Soarer on the grounds it was an older Lexus so could not be too bad.

| Since we are on the subject... ;) If you saw a Camry with Toyota badges driving around you would think "That looks right!!" cos Camrys look like exactly what they are; a standard car! If you saw a very stylish car (aka Soarer) driving around with Lexus badges and didnt know better you would also think "That looks right!!" because history has shown that Lexus cars do look very nice! NOW! If you saw the same stylish and awesome car (again, Soarer!) driving around with Toyota badges you would think "WOW, _THATS_ A Toyota? Cool!" ...bearing in mind, in this example you dont know any better! ;) |

YES Peter, I am one of those strange sorta dudes that tries something coz it's "Flavour of the Month", then thinks meh, and changes it all back to standard.

Funny you should mention that, coz I got 2 Lexus key blanks from Andrew Vlamos when I bought the car. However, I'm in possesion of ALL the original TOYOTA Soarer keys that came with the car.....ie: Electronic Master keys (x 2), Secondry key (x 1), Valet key (x 1) and wallet key (x 1), so I guess I'll be retiring the Lexus keys for use as emergency spares........ |

| Wow thats amazing. Nice work to have all those still! Gives you that sorta wow I got the original accessories type feeling... Sadly I lost my Electronic Master key a few weeks ago... Never mind though I didnt really like it but still had its wow factor and worked - only if I stuck it to my head that was though... At least 5m-10m away it worked. Still at the end of the day worst thing Ive done to this soarer Oh gosh... So now have a non genuine Lexus key to use... But! Once I have the fancy 5 Star Alarm installed (as carefully as possible) Ill try get 2 Toyota Soarer Key blanks If they are available... Would your parts CD cover the Part Number for em Don? If you can get these do they have Toyota on one side and the Griffin on the other? |
