Hi All, I'm currently saving money to buy my first Soarer. This will be my first performance car and when I sell my old Volvo I'm going to buy one and I'm pretty excited.
The trouble is I don't know much about cars and I'm worried that I'll buy one that has been trashed or not treated with care, and that there will be some damage that I won't know about.
This seems to be a good community, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in checking out a car with me in Melbourne when the time comes? I have friends that are knowledgable about cars, but Soarers seem to demand someone more specialised for a proper inspection. I'm interested in 91-93 TTs. My ultimate would be a black 93 limited, like the one that has been on the cars for sale section.
Anyway, if anyone has the time and is up for it, let me know. I'll buy the coffee/beer!
-Jay.
Don Bagnall Moderator New Zealand I have WAY less Soarers than Hayden :-(

Welcome to the website Jay.
Mate, don't waste your time looking at other cars. There is a gold one for sale in the Cars For Sale section of this website, owned by Stephen Howlett. Here is the link to the thread - Click me
Take a look at this before you bother with anything else mate. I'm sure a lot of others will also agree with me on this.
Dan McColl Goo Roo Victoria Active V8 and a Factory Manual XF.
They inspected my car very thorough - check depth of paint on panels, proviode samples of oil etc condition, look at every component of the car and they come to you! I was very happy with their service.
Costs $190 but well worth it in my opinion, they definantly know what they are doing.

Cheers... yeah that was a nice car. Except I prefer no body kits.
It might not be for another couple of months, but I'm looking to spend only around 7K as I'm doing my second degree at Uni and working part-time atm.
From what I've read that price is too low for these cars, but they do sometimes go for that much so we'll see how it goes. I would prefer to buy off someone from here though. Maybe I'll get a good tax return!
Was in a 93 V8 the other week and fell in love. Think V8 is a better idea now since they are supposed to have less complications than turbos... Black is good .

I was originally going to buy a V8 model myself, check out my earlier posts. they have a beautiful interior and a lovely sounding engine. I gathered that being a non turbo would mean theyd be cheaper to insure, as well as cheaper to run, another big bonus there also. I was sold on them, despite their compromised performance.
With a bit of research and a few test drives later I am now driving a white 1991 Toyota Soarer Twin Turbo 2.5L...
yes a white 2.5L TT, despite the fact i wasnt even willing to consider looking at them...
You might be wondering what changed my mind?
Well after researching the cost of insurance on both the V8 and TT models i worked out that in my situation itd cost me no more to insure a TT soarer than a V8.
After researching the consumption figures of both models, the TT is less thirsty, and can be rather economical if driven lightly.
I also worked out that the V8 leather interior is compatible with the 2.5 TT. Yes my current interior is nothing special, but none the less i can always go and grab a Limited interior and have it fitted down the track. If you shop around you should be able to find a TT with a woodgrain fnish and save yourself the hassle... looks just as good!
And last but not least... after test driving my first TT... i fell in love lol
I knew i had to have one. Sheer driving heaven mate, trust me, go drive one... youll change your mind. Its more economical so itd probably be better suited to your budget as well!
well none the less, whatever you choose I hope your happy with it. Just my experience in shopping for a soarer...

If you don't have at least 10K, don't even bother looking for a Soarer champ...all you'll be doing is contributing to the underpricing of Soarers

Mate you're buying a Sports/Luxury Performance car, not a fuel miser. You will notice that on this forum, very few people are worried about petrol prices.
If you're going to be taking into account petrol consumption and you're worried that you can't keep up with it and may need to fill up with 91 RON, do your self and the Soarer a favour...sell it and drive an Echo, until you're comfortable in having to own the car and maintain it to standards.
Because regardless of what people say, and I'm sure the majority of the forum members will agree with me here, on the V8's you will average out 6-7.5km's per litre of petrol unless driving on the highway.
And on the TT's you will average 7.5-9km's per litre of petrol unless driven on the highway
Compared to an Echo, you will get on average of 12-14.5km's per litre of petrol, so please, lets not get Soarer's and fuel consumption mixed, because quite frankly, these cars are not exactly made to save petrol
P.S. Fellas note that I'm not having a go at you, I just don't like seeing Soarer's go to waste and get underpriced, because some moron couldn't look after it and is now getting sold for half the price of what they normally sell for
P.S.S. A useful tip if you still want to go ahead with the purchase of a Soarer, if something stuffs up on your car, you're up for big $$$
For example lower control arm bushes ~$400, airbag struts ~$800 each (you have 4), dimmer control regulator(the knob that controls your lighting system) ~$550+GST etc. etc. etc. you get the point
