The accountant is right, as accountants are, on the money-preservation front but without regard to how you feel about what you drive. Accountants would have us all driving Corollas, or Camrys if we really wanted to let our hair down.
After years of company cars I ditched them in the the mid-90s, took the money and bought my own. Having taken some care over business mileage and resale points I was in much the same position financially with a whole lot more pleasure from the cars.
Hey, give us some slack, I'm an accountant.. and I took the money Prefer my Soarer then anything else I got offered. You go to your accountant purely for a financial advice, not to be told which car is better to get, just which one is more cost effective. You're given your information then it's up to you to decide so it's not like we make you. Do you want to save some money, or do you want a good driving experience and enjoyment out of your car? Not all accountants are 'sensible' with these type of things on their personal side anyway. I know of quite o few accountant mates that have their cars as money pits (just like us I guess) so hey, as an accountant and a fellow Soarer driver here's my advice, keep your Soarer and take the money! And whatever you do, don't get a Dunnydoor, you won't regret it.

Peace Daniel, I have no disagreement with anything there. My accountant is a long-standing friend with a terribly peculiar unwillingness to drive fast or far, but whose advice on tax compliance and rugby tips I follow unswervingly.
Hhehehe peace of course Must have looked like I over reacted or something there, didn't mean to. Although I gotta admit there is that general image that accountants have no passion in anything and are overly sensible with money in every respect. Oh well, not that it bothers me One place I used to work at though, there was a couple that did sort of fit that image hehehe.

I am lucky in that my boss lets me have just about anything I want as a company vehicle. I currently drive a 2003 Pajero as this is what I wanted at the time. All our company vehicles get serviced regullarly, so I am happy with my deal. It also helps that I am the maintenance manager for the company.

I like what my accountant said to me "buy what ever car you want, I'll setup the best deal on it I can" So I bought a v8 soarer and the price of petrol sky rocketed.....bastard. That being said, I still luv ma soarer

Daniel: I also fit into the accountant with money pit car scenario I have a 1jz corona drag car which no one at work seems to understand. Bloody stock bmw's and holdens! pfft
On topic: I would go for the company car if they are paying for servicing, fuel etc. That is a good deal. Only problem is you have to drive a crumpledore like everybody else on the road these days.

Hehehe, talk about a money pit Chris. This another accountant I know has a 1976 Ford Escort, total sleeper, but fully restored. Has an R33 engine in it or something ridiculous like that, full of mods, he said in past 5 years he's had it he spent close to 40 grand on it hehe. In drags in does high 11s! Only weighs like 900 kilos too...
I guess you can have a company car for the weekday work, I'd still keep the Soarer for the weekend and long trips though
