Hi guys, first post here, so take it e-z.

Basically I'm picking up a 1991 TT Soarer in 2 weeks time, my dream car for the last 7-8 years or so. Awesome condition, 105,000 on the clock, 18 inch rims, but apart from that completely stock.

What I'm after is someone in Brisbane that can fit and possibly purchase for me, a simple boost controller, turbo timer and blow off valve setup, thats cheaper than Mercury (who quoted me $1100 for the parts and fitted). Also, any reccomendations on a starting package to give me some extra power, without going to too much cost? I thought about these 3 parts, but im open to suggestion. I only want to spend about 500 bucks to begin with.

The second question is if anyone knows any mechanics in Brisbane that are good to get my car serviced at.

And the third is what sort of chronological order should i upgrade my car in, and what parts, also a general ballpark figure on how much it would cost to put a decent exhaust system in.

Thanks guys, ive watched the forums for a while but only now have i registered and posted :-)

Welcome to the club David. I would recommend taking the car to Wayne and Tuff Toys in Love Street Bulimba for the servicing. He imports and sells/services them all the time and is someone who I would have absolute trust in to do an honest job on your pride and joy.

Hi David,

good to have another brissy member.

Turbo Timer : Do you really need one? Im not a big fan of turbo timers as they can get you in trouble with insurance / law as your car keeps running even when you turn the key off (read- car crash, turbo timer keeps fuel pump pumping)
In all honesty, i dont think they are worth it, its all about just driving sensibly for the last 2 min of your trip. I would only leave my car running for about 2 or 3 min ONLY if i had been floggin it for a bit and been on boost all the time.

Boost controller, these are not TOO difficult to set up if you have some knowledge on how they work, depends on if you get a simple bleed valve, or an EBC (electronic boost controller) Check out ebay for them, bleed valves are bout $40 or so.

But if you wanna run a lil more boost, i would probably invest in a boost gauge (again, pretty easy to wire up) so you dont blow your car up.

BOV - always BOVs for sale everywhere. See if you can line up a jap one that is already on a pipe ready to go onto the soarer...

1st thing to do on the weekend off - do the BFI (do a search for it on this site)

im goin to stop typing now and get back to uni work

sounds good! yeah i forgot about needing a gauge, so ill try line that one up. Im not a big one for working on my own car, lack of confidence, and general car know-how is my problem.

Also, i wouldnt be looking at an electronic one, although ive heard you can get the mannual ones mounted in the dash? any opinions on this?

as in manual boost controllers in the cabin?

That is a NO NO according to the law.

Plus i wouldnt think it would be accurate with soo much hose having to be run into the cabin, could upset the turbos? I dunno. Its just cos twin turbo bleed valve set up is a little bit more confusing and i would suspect that it is better to have equal lengths running from each wastgate etc
*that is a lil difficult to understand*

But Dave, once you get your new ride, post up some pics and some info on it. Then hopefully we will have another cruise soon and you can meet some people and get a heads up on how it all works.

Forget the BOV ( it's already got one), as James said 1)free up the intake ( BFI mod) cost $10.00
2)3 inch exhaust from turbo to tail including hi flow cat & muffler/s cost $1,000.
3) Fit SAFC-2 & get dyno tune , cost $ 600-$800.

After 1 & 2 boost should be around 11-12psi anyway.
Next is Front mount IC , cost $600-$900
Boost controller if you need more grunt.(which should be around 170-180 rwkw at this point)

Then spend money on brakes ( rotors, pads, braided lines $ 1,200 ) and suspension (sway bars , at least) cost $800.00.

After all that you'll be flyin' !!! ( and stopping too !!)

mine used to go WA CHOOOOSH really loud, and reasonably short, but if you eased off the accelerator rather than take the foot off, it would go WA CHOOOSH WA CHA wa cha wa cha

awesome combination of sound, you could ease the foot off under 2500 revs for just the wa cha cha

wow, look at me, trying to phonetically sound out a blow off valve

(ps, currently from listening to the soarer im going to buy, its silent, so im assuming a silent wastegate?)

Is there any real point in venting a BOV to the atmousphere?

Also, are there any more decent Brisbane mechanics? I'll be looking at Soarers to buy this week and next week and wouldn't mind a couple scattered around so I can book any cars I like in to be checked out..

Cheers,

Charlie

m'eh.... i like my BOVs... always have always will..

hahaha i think its funny when people try to replicate their bov sound "cccaaachhhheeeeeeee" !

Just get installed, but dont make it stick out like dogs balls.

OH and David - have a new Turbo XS RFL BOV sitting at my place, its brand new, i was gonna change mine but i never got round to it. My mate has one on his 200sx, its pretty loud, does scare little children and old people with it

There's a good looking '97 update (Perry) on Station and Turton St.'s Sunnybank, only thing is it's a 2JZ non Turbo, it looks in great nick though, especially the interior.
