I was talking to a guy at work tonight and he said he couldn't get insurance through Just Car Insurance .. He drives a stock standard lateish model Australian delivered turbo Celica. He said one of the questions they asked was "do you belong to a car club?" and they where asking him a lot of technical questions about the car. He said it was as if they where making sure he knew a lot about his car..

Anyway, my question is.. Does belonging to a car club help in attaining insurance through some companys? And if so, by being signed up here for the forums are we in the ALSC or are there dues etc to be paid?

MOST companies wont ask you if you are a member of a car club. I don't think the majority care? I know Just Cars didn't ask me?

Shannon's Insurance claim they only insure "Car enthusiasts" and when you ring up, they are you "What makes you a car enthusiast?" They are expecting to hear your car is your pride and joy and that you are a member on various car clubs ect.

If you are an active member on the forums, that makes you a member of "SC" and "ALSC". No fees are necessary, I think there was a plan there at one stage to charge a fee, but it never eventuated.

Hope it helps buddy.

Same here, just cars didnt ask me any of those questions too...

For some reason the guy i talked to, keep saying my soarer is a TT and i always needed to correct him is a V8 and not a TT...

At the end he told me TT/V8 the insurance cost will be the same for me...

ALSC is not a registered car club so for insurance purposes you're not a member of a car club just because you signed up at SC/ALSC.

Tim how did you get insurance mate?

I rang elders today and they refused to insure me...due to it being a turbo and my age?

whats the go? how did you get insurance and how so cheap?

i rang a few places today for quotes and the best i got was from Just Cars with a excess of $2500 and 40% NCB and only agreed value of $16,600 what a paid for it 2 and half yrs ago.

I asked Elders and they said that you can only have 2 modifications on your car before they won't insure you any more. I said "So, if I put new wheels on my car and an intercooler, then you won't insure me if I do anything else?" and she said yes.

Just cars will insure you no matter how many mods you have. Go with Elders if you are gonna keep it stock, or close to it, but if you are gonna go spastic on the car, Just cars will be about the only place that will insure you.

I see troy...lol least you got accepted i didnt even mention any mods, just 20 and turbo = no go lol

By the way Just Cars wont insure me because they asked if i had any dents i said yes i have a few small dints and one dent but i also said im gonna get it resprayed and fixed later on when i get the money cause the paint isnt that great... from that they said i have to get the paint and dents fixed before they can insure me aswell. its bloody crazy

think ill stick with 3rd party for a while longer.

I called just cars up, 10 minutes later I had full comprehensive insurance on my TT soarer + mods for 1231 bucks. Rating 2 - based on how many years driving without an accident.

I had a policy previously with them with my old 87 soarer turbo, but that was only 3rd party fire theft. I have to rate just cars as the best mob ive ever dealt with, and so quick and easy and painless to organise anything!
