Hey guys!

Picking up the car tonight, and straight to autobarn tomorrow to get a boost controller, boost gauge, turbo timer and bov installed.

the main question is here, what can i safely boost it up to without fear of damage to the car, without putting it on a dyno? I wont have a chance to get it dyno'ed and tuned for a couple of weeks yet, so im a bit worried as to what i can push it to. Any tidbits would help!

(ps, TT 2.5)

This has probably been answered many times before with different opinions. I believe that you definitely won't want to go past 1 Bar or about 16 PSI. That is the absolute MAX.

How many kms has it done? higher than stock boost could effect the condition of the ceramic turbos as ive heard they tend to need a rebuild after 170,000kms... they could break but thats just some stuff i read about the TT before getting my v8.

Stick to about 10 PSI that way it safe but you will feel the diff between stock and boost, and you won't run the risk off boost cut and f#*ken your turbos don't be temped to go more until the work is done or you could be paying money out before you are ready.

It the car is completely standard, it should be running 8psi stock.

The MAX I'd boost it on stock turbos / intercooler without an air intake or anything like that would be 12 PSI MAX!

Enjoy the car dude.

Once you've got a pod, exhaust and say an intercooler, u can turn the boost up to 14psi :-)

Good luck.

wow, that was higher than i expected! i thought id have to hang around 8psi without a dyno/tune/intake etc.

105,000 km, really nice to drive :-) the only thing is the suspension is a tiny little bit floaty, something im not used to with my old soarer and its koni shockies, and then my commodore with the FE2 suspension... but hey :-)

i am so stoked! ive finally got the car of my dreams :D

105,000kms should be quite good. Theres a nice TT in nz with similiar kms its quite cheep too, well most soarers in NZ are 1/2 the price of ones in Australia! i was looking at this TT before i got my v8

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Toyota/auction-39907372.htm

6.5k with 104kms here... what would that be worth over in Australia? 15k?

By the way is your car TEMS equiped as you said its a bit floaty?

You cant boost over 1bar with the stock ECU anyway, need yourself some sort of emanage or afc to trick it? ;D

On stock turbos, i wouldnt think you are pushing any more than 10psi

Yeah you'll blow the ceramic turbines off the turbo if you go too close to 14psi. To be on the safe side I would stick to 10psi or you'll be shelling out for a rebuild or new turbos sooner than you think!

Do an oil, coolant and spark plug change before playing with boost. If you've got the stock exhaust system, you dont want to be pushing more than 12psi at this stage. The stock cooler is fine, but you'll definately notice heat soak after a run or two. You will need to gap your spark plugs down to 0.7-0.8mm and drop to colder plug (BKR7E) for safety and diversion of possible ignition related issues.

Look into getting an exhaust system and FMIC soon after you've got the EBC running well.

i wound it up to 12psi last night and it was handling fine, going to drop it back before driving to work this morning. Autobarn installed all the stuff for me, but for some reason ran some piping around the extra large battery without asking if i wanted to change the battery instead :/ because of this (possibly) my bov is sounding very very pissy, lots of intake, and not much output (turbosmart veeport).

i have to take it back anyway because the kept the manuals! how am i meant to work my turbo timer and set it to auto if i dont have the manual :-(

all in all though, happy with everything. should get the sound system installed this week too :-)

maybe it's short for "West Australian Noddy Nuts Association", and is considered a slur on Noddy's

So, 12-14psi, the bov tubing refitted, and a hundred dollars off a new turbo timer later, my car is awesome :-)

basically i took it back, they cut down the tubing, put a new spring in the bov, and cleaned it up and it sounds awesome now. while that was happening, the turbo timer (whcih didnt work on auto mode) had another fit, so i asked them to replace it.
Walk inside, check out the other turbo timers for the same price (69 bucks) i found one that was discounted from 170. score i thought, got it fitted, no labour costs... then half an hour of dicking around as they realised that the turbo timer they sold me shouldnt have had that discount sticker on it... and were losing 50 bucks off the COST price by putting it in my car :-) so even though there was a lot of hassle, i came out on top! go me!

also, sounds awesome, drives awesome. cant wait to do BFI (probably with a pod filter methinks) and a reasonable cat back exhaust system. im so excited big kev style!

My turbo timer likes shutting off the turbos without much cooldown at all on auto. If i give my turbos a tough time and the engine gets quite hot, it only wants to give it like 1:30mins.
Normally after a hard drive id give my car 3mins at least to warm down.
