I've been told its a requirement for Warrant of Fitness (WOF) that your airbag be serviced every 10 years - though I'm sure many inspectors bother checking if its been done.

Hmm Mid to High 7sec 100km/h time is quite good for a car this size..

Yup, nothing wrong with the JZZ31. I managed to out-accelerate a over-enthusiastic current model Ford Falcon (just the standard model) a few days ago on the Penrose highway from the Grt South Road lights. Hit the next set of lights and repeat performance. He then proceeded up to some very insane speed in an 80K area, so I left him to it.

It wasn't a XR6, just a standard 4 litre. It was the current model though. I'd think based on this that my car would have similar performance to a naturally asperated XR6, but would get left in the dust by an XR6 turbo or XR8. Of course I'd expect the Soarer to out handle any Falcon (which isn't saying much I guess)

hmmm just looking at the Ford Falcon and it has a 4.0L DOHC straight 6s engine making 190kW of power @ 5250rpm and 383Nm of torque @ 2500rpm! If that cant beat a 3.0gt soarer it must be really slow or the soarer is quite fast

A standard Falcon (or Quasimodore) could outrun my 4.0L V8 until I made the changes. The unmodified 3.0L is300 can hold its own with the Falcon but it is at least 150Kg lighter than the V8.

Hmm, 190KW and 383Nm in a car weighing 1680KG vs 165KW and 290Nm in a car weighing 1540KG's - on paper the Falcon would seem to have the edge (I'd argue marginally based on the 140KG difference between the two cars) - but then Ford have a very wierd way of determining advertised power figures (as do Commodore), Its not just power that determines acceleration and lastly I'm pretty good at launching and have good reactions. (plus am probably a fair bit lighter than the probably overweight middle aged bugger who would be driving the Falcon) David, UZZ31's are pretty hefty, but still a bit lighter than the Falcon, and with much the same power and torque figures (again, given that Ford seem to basically pull theirs out of a hat) I'd be surprised if a standard UZZ31 would struggle to keep up with a standard Falcon. I know my UZZ30 was significantly faster than my Boss's Falcon (which is a 2000 model)

Well i guess that shows Fords are crap and soarers are better!! Plus soarers actually have style and smooth lines in the design where as the - FORD looks like just, a dull car.. that costs how much more $?

I agree with the paper model Matthew but my UZZ31 is ten years older than a current Ford and I am not sure the weight is quite as low as they claim, so I was not too surprised at the early real-world experiences. Using standard models for quarter-mile drag speed and time, the is300 ought to be slower than the UZZ31 or the Falcon but at first was clearly faster than the Soarer and on par with the Falcon. Adjusting the Soarer ECU's attitude to life, not to mention adding 30rwkw, has knocked off a second or two and now it leaves the others behind

Read an article earlier in the year noting the huge differences in power between the identical models caused by poor production control. One of the Ford V8 ute models had over a seconds difference over the 1/4 between identical cars! (the reviewer noted how pissed a potential buyer might be to discover this) A Monaro Vs a Commodore V8 with practically the same engine, the Commodore was faster than the Monaro, even though it was a lot heavier!

Although the 2jz-ge is not turbo and therefore harder to modify.. can much be done to increase power and torque? Like a full dual exhaust, BFI, Sporty ecu w/tune etc? What approximate power gains could you get out of those 3?

According to an aftermarket chip site, you could expect 8-10% from them. I have no idea about the effects of the other changes because I have neither made them nor read about anyone who has. I am pretty interested though, because I have a 2JZ-GE in the other car. I have looked at the intake and it scoops air from the top of the grill with no obvious way of improving it given I do not want a pod. The exhaust, I have not yet examined but this is the four-door family car so I do not plan to be aggressive with it. I will probably start with a chip when it runs out of warranty next year.

I haven't checked myself but I hear there's a huge amount of info on beefing up a 2jz-ge on the Supra sites. The 2jz-ge is very common in a lot of Supra's getting around, certainly more than the Soarer. Might be worth having a look, seeing as they're almost identical cars.

These are quite useful in making the engine more free reving and make your car accelerate faster. http://bomzracing.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=735 Good bolt on modification!

BFI, exhaust, shift kit and a mines ecu would give a reasonable amount with the BFI and exhaust giving better fuel consumption as well. Also expensive in total but W.T.F.

I was looking last night and the factory exhaust manifold looks pretty too, so some nice headers would probably make a noticible difference. Plenty of room in there for a pressure balanced system as well. Shift kit would be the same as the V8 right?

Matthew, even with VVti there's only 5PS (~3.5kW) difference between the two motors, the later motor has extractors, if the earlier motor doesn't, is it worth the hassle for one or two kW? A few Nm of torque perhaps?
