how much are r154 worth these days, including bellhousing, clutching stuff, cylinders, etc?

i saw a couple on some US forums, and they reckon 400 USD is about the right price, where as on SC ive heard people say it costs like 3k. anyone got an actual price? and where would u source one anyway?

Older MA70/JZA70 ones go from anywhere between $1200 to $1800, with the latter being more common lately.

The JZZ30/JZX90/JZX100 ones go for a bit more as they are rarer and newer.

Mind you, these are prices without flywheel/clutch.

A bolt in UZZ30 conversion kit with a decent NA clutch will set you back about 4-5k

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Gear-boxes/auction-207712782.h tm
Looks a bit on the expensive side.
Would it bolt up to a V8? (C'mon Goo Roo's help us out.)

You'd still need a 1UZ bellhousing ($500ish) or adaptor plate ($800ish), a flywheel ($350+) and a clutch ($350+)

Yeah i got a new R154 from toyota late last year for around 2.5k It was already in Australia and didnt need to be imported.

I think you will find due to the AUD that buying a new R154 now will be over 3k.

Out of curiosity what was included with it?

Bellhousing? Shifter? Shifter positioner thingy? clutch fork? release bearing?

If your question is directed to me Andrew then, I know it came with bellhousing and shifter it was a later model R154 aswell out of the 94+ models. Im unsure about clutch fork and release bearing as i only saw it once it was installed by mechanic.

forgive my poor memory but what are the benefits of the R154 and is it suitable for a supercharged v8?

Compared with W58 ?

Its stronger, and thus suitable for s/c V8 in a heavy car like the Soarer.

compared to the standard 1994 V8 auto box.
Are the ratios the same ?
Final drive the same?
LSD ?

R154 is a gearbox, nothing to do with the diff.
It has 5 speeds, instead of 4.

The ratios of 2nd, D, and OD are very similar to 3rd, 4th and 5th.

L is positioned roughly halfway between 1st and 2nd.

Apart from that, all the normal 'benefits' (and drawbacks) of manual vs auto apply.

Benefits?

Its more Personal Choice, if you like to drive Manual and want more fun during a sunday drive through the twistys then Manual is what you want.

If you want a fast 1/4mile car id stick with a Auto and beef it up.

Benefits? A more responsive and controllable car on the road with more visceral pleasure driving it.

Drawbacks? However many thousand you spend on the conversion, you will never see it again.
