If you have an accident and need to make a claim, make sure your tyres comply; not only in speed rating but load rating as well. I rang my insurance company regarding this, and was told they may not meet a claim if my new tyres did not meet the required ratings. So make sure yours are right before taking to the road. You should find your ratings on a sticker just inside the frame of the drivers door.

they can only refuse a claim if the accident can be related to the item,
take a corner too fast then the under rated tyres blow causing you to hit a pole, then your gone
but if your driving along and a spaceship lands on your bonnet, then they cant refuse a claim cos your tyres had nothng to do with the accident, unless the aliens hit you cos they were trying to take a look at you new low profile rubber that is.. same goes for width as well as the loading, how many soarers are running wider than 8" rims. heaps, in vic more than 1" wider than stock is illegal so the same case would apply... as soarers are factory limited to 180km/h pretty much any tyre will meet the speed rating, and afaik the load rating is pretty low for such a heavy car, from memory mine said 90 load rating, i've had lighter cars that were 95, that makes it much easier to keep legal
