So today i got bored and decided i would have a go at installing the blue dash. I didnt bother getting the kit, instead i went to a stage lighting shop and got myself some lighting gels. Very similar to cellophane for those who dont know but far more heat resistant. I brought a piece about the size of an A3 size piece of paper for $5. I only needed about a quater of it. It was really simple, just cut them to size and sticky taped them down. Only hard part was that stupid orange cord! it was a pain in the ASS! One question though and i know its been in heeps of threads but does anyone know where i can find a tube for the bottom part of the dash that not to hard to fit? anyway hear are some photos! thanks

seriously bruce.. do it yourself man it is SOO easy!
I was a lil worried about when i started to do mine but was blown away about how easy it was and the results i got.
Go buy some different colour GELS and start playing around with them. As for changing the bottom light thingo, that seemed a little more difficult so i left it and it looked fine anyways.

If you can turn a socket wrench, turn a screw driver and bother to search the forum for instructions, you can do it. IT IS EASY!
Anybody in Melbourne, I've got a whole roll of that blue 'lighting gel' that I got from a audio store, I'm happy to give to cut off a portion free of charge, given that you have to come pick it up.

I can't believe I paid $35 for the import scene kit only to find out that it's just a couple of pieces of perspex and they weren't even cut to size properly.

Sorry Andrew, I cannot remember the name of the place or even the address. I just remember that is on Williamstown Road, Port Melbourne. But you wouldn't find it, it's tucked in behind a few shops. Just check the yellow pages for any audio store around your area, I'd guess most would have it.

Guys, been covered before... Red dash is a no go.
The projector lamp in the dash is green, and the standard filters are red, ergo the white (or slightly greenish in older, dirtier dashes) appearance of the standard dash. Green light through red filter comes out nearly pure white if the correct colour temperatures are used. So without changing the actual lamps in the dash (and that is not going to happen, lol) you won't be able to get a red display

Hey Peter, i took your advice on this one as well. When i 1st did the cheapo blue dash conversion my dash was a kind of turquoise color. So today i pulled it out again and put an extra layer on and woolaa! Very nice blue colored dash! Thanks mate!

Lol I tried this last night. I did mine a while ago and it always looked more aqua than blue to me(when I had the light up super high which I like). So I ripped it out last night and tired to put some more layers on. Disaster! I was using cellophane. So I went from 1 layer to 5 layers. Oh Yuk! I got the collar I wanted but everything was all blurrrry. So I cut down the layers and by the time everything got clear again at 2-3 layers, it was not blue anymore it was back to aqua. So ok no worries I will go get some lighting gels from Stafford. Another $5 and lots of time stuffing around cutting things to size which I HATE and it was bloody blury again when I get the colour I want. So I chucked the biggest angry fit at around 10:30pm last night and went stuff it. I have ordered the $35 kit today and will get it next week. That way everything is cut to size or close too, and I know it will be the nice deep blue colour I want with no blurriness. Lets hope all goes well for me as I am OVER IT at the moment. I also hate having to disconnect my battery as I lose all my radio stations and my computer settings
Oh I also will not be putting the tube down the bottom as I have a car dash like the picture above and I like to keep my colours around the auto gear symbols. Such as red for Reverse! Does anyone have a picture of the blue light done behind this. I would like to know if the red for reverse gets turned to blue as well. If it stayed red I would change my bottom to blue too.????????????

Hey mitchell! Sorry to hear you had such a problem with it! Mine was hell bright and like a turquoise aqua color when i 1st had the one layer in and way to bright at night IMO. I pulled it out and put one more layer on and it was a sweet as blue and not blurry at all! Still looks sweet as and cant see anything going wrong wit it in the future! When you have the dash out its a good idea to give the mirror piece inside a good clean! But yeah 2 layers is all you need.

After reading lots I see jaycar do not do the 300mm CCFL anymore and so you can not convert the lower section of your dash to a dif colour. Has anyone found a replacement yet for the fluro?
I was thinking the bottom part has glass in front of the standard fluro. Could you not put lighting gel in front of the fluro on the glass to turn it all blue???? Or is the fluro to close and would burn the lighting gel?
